Chapter 714
And so, the toxic rumors slowly began to catch fire and spread.
“Hey, I heard something about Rebecca… you know.”
“What? Tell me!”
“I heard she’s being kept by some rich guy.”
“No way!”
“You don’t believe it? Haven’t you seen the luxury cars picking her up at the school gate every week? And it’s not even the same car every time! Sometimes it’s a million-dollar luxury ride, and once there was one that looked like it cost over a million.”
“So, she’s being kept by different guys?”
“Who knows? Maybe she’s juggling a bunch of guys at the same time. Or maybe the guy is just so ridiculously rich that his family owns an entire fleet of cars!”
“I’ve seen different people picking her up. Sometimes a guy with brown hair, and sometimes a foreigner. Either way, her private life is trash.”
“Even a foreigner? No way!”
“Well, she’s a dance student. You know how those artsy types are.”
“True. Rich guys want clean and respectable girls. She’s already been passed around.”
Initially, a few girls tried to push back against the vitriol. “Hey, it’s really messed up to talk about a girl that way. Are you guys seriously making up all these horrible things just because she won a speech competition? Her spoken French has always been exceptional.”
“Exceptional, my foot! With enough money, anyone could win. You can easily hire a college student to ghostwrite a flawless script, memorize the lines, bribe the panel of judges, and maybe even cheat using a hidden teleprompter or earpiece. Anyone could sound brilliant under those conditions!”
By the end of the morning, the toxic slander had systematically saturated the entire grade.
Some chose to believe it blindly, while others remained skeptical, but the malicious source of the rumors had already been buried too deep to trace.
Yet, despite how rapidly the wildfire spread, it somehow failed to breach the ears of the individuals involved.
