Chapter 723
Jenny ran off, feeling heartbroken for everything Rebecca had endured that day and for the collapse of her friend Vance.
Rebecca’s heart ached at the scene, and she hurried downstairs. When they met on the side of the building, Jenny startled, then quickly wiped her tears.
She didn’t want Rebecca to see her cry, but her tears kept coming.
A sharp, bittersweet sting pricked at Rebecca’s chest. In truth, with her 30-something mindset, she no longer expe raw, explosive emotions of youth the same way.
The rumors, the assault in the bathroom, Vance’s disappearance, his fierce protection of Catherine… none of it sho deeply. Yet Jenny’s loyalty as a friend made her feel both bitter and warm at the same time.
She took Jenny’s hand. “Jenny, thank you.”
That only made Jenny cry harder. “For what? I didn’t accomplish a thing.”
“You have already done so much for me. Thank you for being such an incredible friend,” Rebecca said sincerely.
Jenny always viewed her as a delicate dance student, unaware that underneath the slim appearance was a body full of and strength.
“An incredible friend? I couldn’t even protect you,” Jenny said bitterly.
There was someone who could have protected Rebecca, but when it mattered, he was nowhere to be found when it matt Worse, he sided with their enemy.
“You’ve helped me more than you know. Really,” Rebecca soothed jenny.
Experiencing this pure, passionate teenage friendship again was one of the best parts of returning to this world.
“I believe you,” Darren replied, his voice laced with absolute conviction. “You are the most resilient and tenacious person I hav ever met.”
Rebecca let out a light chuckle. “Throwing around all those extreme superlatives is a bit of an exaggeration, don’t you think?”
“I only know you’d be unstoppable with the smartest friend,” he said meaningfully.
She burst into a bright laugh. “The smartest friend? You?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t I? Got your phone?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m sending you something.”
