Chapter 725
“What are your ruiting from Vance’s voice rang out behind her, chillingly cold
Rebecca paused at his words.
“Afraid the teachers will think we’re secretly dating?” he pressed, his tone laced with a sharp, interfugative edge that fels distinctly aggressive.
She turned around. “No.”
“Then why are you trying to hide from me?” His eyes looked like they were coated in ice. “We’re not in any kind of relationship anyway. So, what are you afraid of?”
“I…” she murmured. “I said the wrong thing. I wasn’t thinking so much.”
He stared at her quietly, then turned and walked downstairs. The whole encounter left her baffled. She had no idea when he had arrived on her floor or what his true purpose had been in coming here.
Throughout that entire evening, Rebecca’s mind remained a chaotic whirlwind. It wasn’t because of the malicious slander or the ambush in the shower stalls; rather, it was because of Vance and Darren.
When she finally lay down in her dormitory bed that night, the faces of those two boys kept alternating continuously behind her eyelids, overlapping until she couldn’t even tell at what point she finally drifted off to sleep.
Her slumber was restless and fragile. Voices kept echoing in her ears.
“She has been sleeping even longer this time,” Kaitlyn sighed. “When is she going to wake up?”
“Don’t worry too much,” Gabriel reassured her. “The doctors say her physical condition is good. We just need to keep up with the daily massages and maintain the physical therapy sessions to ensure her muscles remain active. They’re keeping her on a consistent schedule with the nutrient drips as well.”
“Do you think we should try something else? Maybe look for some priests or psychics?”
“I’ll go and look around today.”
From that, Rebecca realized she was drifting near the real world. This exchange was the clearest part of her subconscious dream; as for what was whispered afterward, or what Josette murmured… it all dissolved into a fuzzy, incoherent blur.
A wave of sharp anxiety gripped her because she wasn’t ready to come back yet. There were still many things unresolved in that dream world. If she left now, she wasn’t sure if her younger self could handle it all.
