Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 221

As Grace walked out of the detention center, she saw the familiar Maybach parked by the side of the road.

The window rolled down.

It revealed Damien’s still-pale face.

Though he was still hospitalized, he hadn’t been able to rest easy and had insisted that Felix drive him over.

“What took you so long?”

Damien frowned, his tone thick with displeasure.

“There’s not much to say to a lunatic.”

Grace looked at him and suddenly smiled.

A bright, brilliant smile.

She walked over quickly, though her leg still had a slight limp, pulled open the car door, and burrowed into Damien’s arms.

Damien grunted from the impact but instinctively held her tight.

“What’s wrong?”

He sensed that something was off with her mood.

“Damien.”

Grace looked up at the man who had loved her across two lifetimes.

“I want to eat an apple. Will you peel it for me?”

Damien paused for a moment, then a fond smile touched his lips.

He kissed her on the forehead.

“Of course. For the rest of your life.”

Grace leaned against his shoulder, smiling sweetly.

Damien’s eyes narrowed.

He would have Felix run a thorough check later. It would be best to have Elliot transferred to a beat in some remote mountain town.

Daring to covet his wife?

Not a chance in hell.

***

Although Damien had promised to peel apples for a lifetime, his face was still a bit pale.

After all, his injuries hadn’t fully healed, and he had pushed himself to make the trip to the detention center.

“Easy now.”

Damien got out of the car first, then patiently turned back to help Grace.

Grace’s heart skipped a beat.

“What is it? Does your leg hurt?”

Damien keenly noticed the slight furrow in her brow and immediately bent down to carry her.

“I’m fine, it’s just a little stiff.”

Grace pressed his hand down, shaking her head.

They were at the hospital entrance with people coming and going. She didn’t want to make a scene.

Damien’s face instantly darkened.

His hand tightened unconsciously, pinching Grace’s waist.

He was trying his best to hold back.

In the past, he would have kicked this clueless cop into next week.

But he had promised Grace he would change his temper and respect her friends.

Even if this friend was a so-called “childhood sweetheart” who was after his wife.

“It’s much better. It’s an old injury,”

Grace said lightly, avoiding Elliot’s concerned gaze.

She didn’t want to bring up the memories of her leg being broken and reset, of crawling in the rainy night, in front of an old classmate.

It was too humiliating.

“So, what brings you to the hospital…?” Grace changed the subject.

“Oh! I almost forgot.”

Elliot held up a file folder in his hand.

“My grandma wasn’t feeling well a few days ago, some heart trouble, so she came in for a full check-up. I’m here to pick up her results.”

“Is your grandmother okay?”

At the mention of Elliot’s grandmother, Grace’s expression softened.

Back in middle school, when she had stomach problems, Elliot had brought her steamed fish that his grandmother had made.
