Fluffy Mates Chase Their Boss on Survival Show novel Chapter 379

Chapter 379 Yates’ Offhand Remark

Buoyed by this fantasy, Stella reached out, intending to tug at his sleeve the way she used to

But Carson recoiled as if her touch would burn, putting a full arm’s length between them.

His expression was stern, unyielding. “Keep your distance. I have a mate. I won’t have Layla misunderstanding anything.”

The live chat howled with laughter.

[Look at him guarding his virtue! Man’s ready to install a chastity belt.]

[Mr. Self-Respect over here. Love to see it.]

The rejection stung, but Stella quickly plastered on another bright, strained smile. “I genuinely want to help Layla. That’s all.”

Just then, Liam’s voice, rough and annoyed, came from the cabin doorway. “The best way you can help is by going back to your place and staying put.”

Supported by Yates, Liam emerged looking pale and unsteady, massaging his temples. “The nearest military unit has been alerted. They’ll be here within the hour.”

A wave of relief washed over Carson.

He’d tried to use Liam’s secure comms earlier, but the retinal scanner wouldn’t authenticate without Liam being conscious.

He’d left Yates to tend to him while he stood watch, only to have Stella show up.

Liam fixed his bleary eyes on Stella, his patience clearly spent. “No one has time for your games. Get back.”

His harshness was a stark contrast to his earlier, more diplomatic demeanor.

Stella’s eyes welled up with theatrical tears. “We’re not on the same team anymore, General Hartwell, but must you be so cruel?”

Liam retorted, waving a hand irritably, “You made sure we weren’t on the same team, didn’t you? Plotting against Layla, playing the helpless princess while everyone else works… I signed up for a survival show, not to be your personal servant. Now, for the last time, leave.”

Compared to Carson’s chilly politeness, Liam’s words were a slap.

With a dramatic sob, Stella turned and fled into the woods.

Carson watched her go, a thoughtful frown on his face.

“Missing her already?” Liam asked, a hint of sarcasm in his tired voice.

Carson shook his head. “Just wondering if her little visit had a purpose. She was certainly fishing for information. This whole situation… it might trace back to her.”

Liam considered it, then shrugged, the motion making him wobble. “Could be. But we’ve got bigger problems right now.”

He looked at Carson, genuine worry breaking through his irritation. “Any word from Layla?”

“Not since she brought Shane back. She said the pirates were still active, and she had to deal with it,” Carson admitted, a thread of anxiety in his own voice.

Liam nodded grimly. Dealing with interstellar pirates was far beyond their current scope. They needed the military.

“I’ve notified the nearest garrison. The mention of pirates got their attention; they’re mobilizing fast.”

At Liam’s words, Carson let out a sigh of relief. “Should we go to her?” he asked.

Liam gave a firm nod. “Perfect timing. I’ll relay our coordinates to the military.”

He reasoned that once the interstellar pirates arrived, they’d likely touch down as close as possible to Leonard’s crew.

Intercepting them there made the most sense.

Stepping forward, Carson steadied Liam with a hand on his arm, concern still evident in his tone. “Are you sure you’re alright?”

A faint smile touched Liam’s lips as he met Carson’s gaze. “I’m a general. This is nothing. Just a little lightheaded from the drinks, that’s all.”

From nearby, Yates muttered under his breath, “Is your tolerance really that low? It was barely anything…”
