Chapter 382 Lead Them Here
Layla perked up at the mention.
Oh Liam know her?
She eyed Liam curiously.
Liam quickly explained, fearing Layla might misunderstand his connection with Mia.
“She was convicted of fraud and sent to prison. I hadn’t seen her in ages. Didn’t expect her to escape”
As he spoke, he gave Mia a half-amused look.
L
Mia shivered, biting her lip tightly and keeping her head down.
Damn, what bad luck. Taylor tried to break me out of prison back then, but because Liam was on guard, Taylor almost got caught, too.
Hearing Liam’s explanation, Layla gave Mia a thumbs-up and exclaimed in surprise, “Wow, you even dared to break out of prison! How’d you get out this time?”
Mia puffed out her chest proudly. “Taylor rescued me.”
Layla felt speechless at the adoration in Mia’s eyes.
Taylor is a woman, right? Mia is so loyal to her.
Mia snorted at Layla’s look. “Taylor is not like other women. If you met her, you might fall for her, too.”
Mia’s fervent, almost cult-like praise was abruptly cut off as Layla raised a hand.
“Hold on, stop right there. I’m not interested in women,” Layla stated flatly.
“Neither am I! I just think she’s incredibly formidable!” Mia shot back, flustered.
Just as Layla opened her mouth to retort, Liam intervened.
“She’s a highly intelligent criminal. Everything she says is calculated to manipulate Talking to her is asking for trouble.”
Layla closed her mouth, the unspoken words hanging in the air.
Liam’s warning was a splash of cold water. She hadn’t realized it before, but Mia had been expertly steering the conversation, shifting the focus entirely.
Without Liam’s sharp eye, she would have been led right off the cliff.
A slow, cold smile touched Layla’s lips as she regarded Mia. “Seems the lesson carlier wasn’t quite enough for you.”
A visible shiver ran through Mia at those words.

She raised her right hand as if taking an oath. “I swear, I wasn’t trying anything! I did exactly what you told
me to do.
Layla responded with a dismissive snort.
“What did you have her do?” Liam asked, his tone laced with concern.
With a casual shrug, Layla explained, “She still holds a decent rank among the interstellar pirates. I had her pass along a little message.”
Understanding dawned on Liam immediately. He lowered his voice. “You had her lead then here?”
Layla gave a slight nod, a hint of mischief in her smile. “I left a little present for them back there, too.”
Seeing that familiar, plotting glint in Layla’s eyes, Liam could almost guess. “Don’t tell me you sent them towards the Thunder Pterosaur territory?”
Layla’s eyes widened in genuine surprise, and she offered Liam a thumbs-up. “Spot on, General Hartwell. Sharp as ever.”
Liam’s expression turned troubled.
This complicated his own plans.
He had intended for the military and the pirates to converge in the same location for a quick, clean operation.
But if Layla had manipulated Mia into directing the pirates towards the Thunder Pterosaur nesting grounds, sending troops there now risked friendly fire.
Watching his internal debate, Layla leaned closer, her voice dropping to a murmur. “Have your forces surround the Thunder Pterosaur area. Seal it off so none of them slip away.”
Liam looked at her, startled.
Noticing his surprise, Layla chuckled, “What? Impressed by my brilliance?”
He considered it for a moment. “Hmm. ‘Devious’ might be the more accurate word.”
Layla’s eyes flew open wide, and she made a playful swipe at him.
Liam dodged with a grin, his voice softening. “But I like it.”
His eyes, warm and clear, held hers.
