Forced To Be The Mafia King's Bride (by Oma Green) novel Chapter 180

Gianna's POV

I forced myself to remain calm despite wanting to throw myself into his arms after the day we’d had. "I guess so."

Dante closed the distance between us, his eyes searching mine. "I know you were shaken out there."

He brushed his hand down my arm, sending heat through me. "How are you feeling now?"

I let out a deep breath I didn't know I'd been holding. "I feel much better now. We're both safe."

I tried for a smile. "Though I have to say, finding out your uncle was the mastermind behind our ambush wasn't exactly how I pictured our arrival."

He chuckled. "Not exactly how I pictured it either."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "The Deluca men are something, huh?"

A grin tugged at his mouth, amusement flickering in his eyes. "No. My uncle is something. This is exactly why I hid our trip from him. He has these over the top activities planned without a care as to what we actually want."

"And is that so bad?" The words came out meaner than I intended. "Seeing as you have lots of business to take care of anyway?"

His expression shifted. Walls went up. "I do have a few business meetings lined up. But you have my word, Gianna. It won't interfere with our honeymoon."

"Right." I turned away from him, moving toward the windows. "Because you've been so present up until now."

"That's not fair."

I spun back around. "Isn't it? You barely told me anything about this trip. Just that we were going to Monaco and Nice for our honeymoon. No mention of business meetings or that you even have an uncle who happens to run the territory."

His face hardened. "Gianna, I can't tell you everything. For your own safety. So you're on a need to know basis."

My blood boiled. "Need to know basis? Are you freaking kidding me right now?"

I stepped toward him. "I'm here, Dante. I showed up. I'm playing the part. But don't stand there and tell me I'm on a need to know basis. I'm either in on everything or this isn't going to work."

He reached for my hand. "And you are in on the things that are most important. I can handle business and still make time for you."

"Like you did on the plane?" I shot back, pulling my hand away. "Or in the car? We've barely spoken in days, Dante."

His eyes darkened. "You're the one who has barely looked at me since we left. On the plane, you had your face buried in a book. In the car, you stared out the window like I wasn't even there."

His voice dropped lower. "But when those men surrounded us, when you thought I was in danger, I saw the fear in your eyes. So tell me, Gianna. Were you really scared to lose me? Or would you have been happy to get your freedom back?"

His words stung and infuriated me all at once. "How could you think that?"

"Because you won't talk to me." His frustration broke through now, cracking that tough exterior he always put on. "You shut me out."

"I shut you out?" My voice rose. "You're the one who keeps everything locked up. You don't tell me anything. You just expect me to follow along and smile and play the perfect wife while you handle your business and your family and everything else without ever letting me in."

"That's not true."

"Isn't it?" My chest was tight. I could barely breathe. "Why would I be happy watching you die, Dante? You're my husband. This might not be a love match, but I care what happens to you. Because I've…"
