Forgotten Wife My Ex-Husband Regrets It After I Left (Clara and Liam) novel Chapter 210

Sienna’s POV

I spotted Liam briefly. He looked at Noah with a look I couldn’t decipher as partly tender, somewhat sorrowful and a trace of optimism he seemed reluctant to express.

“Maybe,” Liam said reflectively “that vision could turn into reality someday.”

I stopped stirring the eggs. Only, for a moment yet enough time for Liam to glimpse me.

“Uh I suppose,” Liam scratched the nape of his neck looking uneasy. “If you two are up for it. I mean, assuming Noah’s mom agrees.”

Noah quickly raised both his arms overhead. “I want it! I want it!”

I laughed softly though a weight clutched my chest. “You two are unbearable.”

Liam smiled broadly as though he had been caught drifting off in thought. He cleared his throat. Then busied himself with cutting apples as if intentionally shifting his focus.

I flipped the toast, placed it on a plate and then moved the scrambled eggs into a bowl. It held a feeling of comfort. The home felt lived-in, not empty, not quiet.. I realized that maybe I had been neglecting mornings, like these for way too long without recognizing it.

“Noah, could you help Mommy set the spoons on the table?” I asked.

“I can do it!” Noah replied instantly as he sprang up from his stool and rushed to the drawer.

He grabbed a spoon, let one drop, picked up another, let that one fall too until, at last he managed to bring two spoons over with a grin.”Great job.” Liam praised him ruffling his hair.

We started setting the dining table as a team. Toast, eggs, fruit, sausages and juice were all neatly placed. The atmosphere was so peaceful that I wished time could stand still for a moment.

“Hey, Noah.” I said as I unlocked the fridge door “do you want some yogurt?”

Noah nodded vigorously leaping with excitement.

Liam stood next to me, his shoulder unintentionally brushing against mine. Intense. Close. Uncomfortably close.

“Thank you for making breakfast,” he said softly.

I glanced at him briefly. “I appreciate your help.”

However everything changed when the sound of a ringing phone broke the silence.

Liam exhaled suddenly as though he wished to hold onto the warmth.

He still reached for his phone.

The name shown on the display made me halt abruptly.

Emily.

I felt something drop inside my chest.

Liam’s ex-girlfriend, from some time ago. The lady who left suddenly then came back out of nowhere nearly broke us up. The lady who promised she would cease meddling.

Liam’s face showed a surprise. “Why is she calling?”

I stayed silent. I just stared at the phone reluctant to jump to conclusions.Liam looked at me as if checking to see if I was okay. Meanwhile the phone kept ringing.

“You should answer,” I whispered gently, though my heart trembled a bit.

Liam paused momentarily before hitting the answer button.

“Hi?”

A short moment of silence. Then his voice changed.

“Excuse me? The medical facility?”

The moment the door closed I exhaled the breath I had been holding.

The warm morning suddenly became cold.

I looked around the kitchen that had recently been filled with laughter.

Now all was quiet except for the whir of the oven fan.

In that moment my heart spoke a prayer. I pray this isn’t the beginning of another tempest. I long for Liam to come back and for everything to be alright.

After Liam left I stood still in the kitchen for a while trying to steady my uneven breath. Panicking wouldn’t help. Not right now. I still had to look after Noah and keep the house cozy.

I inhaled deeply. Resumed the morning routine.

“Noah, darling let’s eat breakfast before we go to school,” I said as I set his plate.

He came out of the living room dragging his cherished dinosaur plush toy.”Mommy, can you tell me where Daddy is?”

I smiled softly. A sudden ache tugged at my heart. “Daddy has a matter to handle. Daddy will come home later.”

“Oh.” Noah sat down looking at me briefly as though he were scrutinizing my face. Then he smiled, utterly innocent. “Okay! I’m starving!”

I appreciate that Noah always gave me the space to relax whenever my heart felt tight.

I placed a toast topped with strawberry jam before him. Noah promptly bit into it, his cheeks puffing up adorably.

“Is this worthwhile?” 1 asked while pouring milk into his glass.
