Sienna’s POV
“I’m just scared of hoping much “I murmured softly.”
Scared that if I begin to think I deserve happiness I’ll realize that I don’t.”
“If anything vanishes,” Liliana answered softly, “it won’t happen due to your desires. It will occur because it wasn’t destined for you.”
My chest felt heated. It pained. It warmed.
During that pause Liliana kept holding my hands. She didn’t pressure me to speak. She didn’t push me to confront anything until I was prepared. She simply remained there.. Somehow her being there by my side made me feel less isolated.
I inhaled deeply. My voice sounded faint, almost inaudible.
“Liliana, All I desire is a life. No conflicts. No anxiety that someone from my history will appear and seize everything more.”
Liliana offered me an understanding, slightly lopsided smile.
“Drama will forever exist in the world, Sienna. Yet you have the power to decide who remains by your side when it unfolds.”
I shut my eyes briefly. Calm gradually settled in despitethe remaining discomfort and nervousness.. At least now! was able to breathe a bit more freely.
As I opened my eyes Liliana remained gazing at me unwaveringly as though she awaited something.
Something, from me. An understanding that was gradually emerging, though not completely clear yet.
“Sienna, you have every right to find happiness.
Those phrases at last caused the tears to stream down.
Quietly. Without noise. No weeping. One drop, yet sufficient to lift the weight from my entire being.
Liliana grinned, gently stroking the back of my hand again.
“If you’re unable to be strong I’m here for you. You don’t need to confront everything by yourself.”
After that, a server arrived with our food. I breathed out.
Offering a strained smile.
I clasped the toffee mug with my hands despite not having drunk any yet. The heat gradually spread to my fingers, soothing me slightly. Liliana was seated opposite me, her gaze intent as though she could understand every feeling, without me uttering a word.
“I’m truly thankful I ran into you today Liliana,” I eventually admitted, my tone gentle and sincere. “If you hadn’t reached out sooner I could’ve ended up crying in my car.”
Liliana offered a smile, a smile that was more than asimple smile but a knowing expression, a smile, from someone who fully grasped the weight of the burden.
“It seemed like I nearly felt like quitting,” I went on gazing down at the table. “Watching Emily during that meeting hit me like a dose of reality. I believed I was resilient and that I had come to terms with everything but apparently not. It was as if all the past hurts were torn open again.”
Liliana extended her hand. Grasped mine.
“It’s alright to experience those feelings. You’re human,
Sienna. Not a machine.”
I gave a nod restraining the deep sigh that was on the verge of coming out.
“But what value does a bestselling book have,” Liliana interrupted gently, “if each day you endure stress and anxiety?”
I glanced upward. That was accurate. All too accurate.
“Don’t forget!” she said, gently pressing my hand, “Your book is excellent due to your writing. Because of your passion. Not because of the person featured on the cover. You provide it with worth.”
My chest felt more heat as though something within me had relaxed.
I exhaled deeply. My body sank back into the chair becoming aware of how stiff I had been, throughout the morning. Liliana’s words resonated in my thoughts more* truthfully than I was willing to acknowledge.
“I’m just scared to hope much ” I murmured. “Worried that if I begin to think 1 merit happiness ‘ll wake up someday and it will have vanished.”
“If something vanishes,” Liliana answered softly, “it won’t happen because you wished for it. It will happen because it wasn’t destined for you.”
A gentle heat gradually filled my body, steady and unhurried.
“So you believe I ought to inform the publisher that I’m uneasy about using Emily?” I inquired.
Liliana nodded with assurance. “Indeed. This is your journey. You are the one who chooses. Not Emily.”
I offered a smile. A smile that at last seemed truly my once more.
“Thanks, Liliana. You consistently manage to remind me of myself.”
She laughed softly. “Isn’t that the purpose of friends?”On that day after quite some time I experienced a sense of lightness.
As if that one small step was the beginning of a new kind of courage within me.
