Sienna’s POV
“I’ll walk you inside,” Liam said.
I took his hand and gently shook my head. “It’s okay, Liam.
You should go straight to work. I can handle this on my own.”
He looked at me as if making sure. “You’re sure?”
I smiled. “I’m sure. I’ll be fine.”
Just as Liam nodded and was about to get back into the car, another car pulled up nearby. A man opened the door for the passenger, and someone hurried toward us.
Emily.
I didn’t even have time to react when she suddenly threw her arms around Liam from the side, hugging him tightly, as if he were someone she was about to lose.
My body stiffened. Liam startled and immediately grabbed Emily’s shoulders, pushing her away.
“Emily!” Liam snapped, his voice firm and leaving no room for friendliness. “Don’t ever do that again!”
Emily looked offended, her face flushing with a mix of embarrassment and anger. “Why? What’s wrong with you, Liam? You know I’m still sick! You know I need you! But you haven’t come to the hospital even once after that!”My breath caught in my throat. People in front of the building began to slow down, glancing in our direction.
Liam rubbed his face, trying to hold back his irritation. ” Emily, listen carefully,” he said, his voice loud but controlled. “I came that day because the hospital staff called me. Not because I still have a relationship with you.
Not because I still care in the way you think I do.”
Emily bit her lip, her eyes filling with tears. “But you came. You still came, Liam! That means you still-”
“No,” Liam cut in sharply. “It doesn’t mean anything. We don’t have any relationship anymore. It’s been over for a long time.”
I closed my eyes briefly. Liam’s words struck like a slap to the reality Emily was trying to force.
“I’m going to remarry Sienna,” Liam continued, softer but even firmer. “I have a family. And I love my wife. I won’t let you interfere with our lives anymore.”
Emily shifted her gaze to me. Her look was filled with anger and she tried to hide behind a bitter smile.
“Of course,” she said sarcastically. “She must be enjoying seeing me like this.”
I met her stare without backing down. My voice was low and calm. “Emily, you should focus on getting better. Not reliving a past that’s already over.”
Emily exhaled harshly, then looked back at Liam, her hopevisibly crumbling bit by bit. “Liam, I still-”
“Please,” Liam shook his head, his voice weary. “Stop.
You’re making everything harder. For yourself too.”
Emily covered her mouth with her hand, then turned around and went into the buitding without another word.
Silence settled again.
I took a long breath, trying to calm my racing heart. Liam turned to me, his face full of regret.
“I’m sorry you had to see that,” he said quietly.
I shook my head and stepped closer. “It’s not your fault, Liam.”
I looked at Emily. Not to challenge her just to be honest.
“Emily,” I went on, “you are a strong, confident, and very assertive woman. But that’s not the character I want to portray in my story. I don’t see the side I need from you.
It’s not your fault. It’s simply not a match.”
Emily gave a stiff smile. “Is that so? Or is there another reason, Sienna?”
Her tone was cutting. All eyes in the room immediately turned to me.
I remained unaffected. “No,” | answered truthfully. “This is purely a professional decision. And I believe we should all respect it.”
Vina asked, “Then who will be the replacement candidate”
“‘ll share that after this session,” I interrupted gently. “‘m still selecting a few people for a visual audition.”
Emily scoffed softly. I could hear it, but I didn’t respond. In my mind the image of her pushing Liam earlier, the dark look on his face as he reprimanded her all of it only strengthened my resolve that this decision wasn’t just professional.
It was about boundaries.
About dignity.
The meeting continued as usual after that, but the atmosphere had clearly shifted. Emily sat straighter, her expression hardened like someone unaccustomed to being rejected, especially in public.
And me?
I felt my breathing grow lighter.
