Sienna’s POV
Noah giggled. “Daddy is important. Mommy too.” I laughed softly. “Then that makes Noah the most important.”
“Why?” Noah moved closer, his eyes bright with curiosity.
“Because you’re the one who makes this house lively,” I said, taking his hand and pulling him closer to the sofa.
Noah hugged his robot tightly. “If Noah wasn’t here, would Mommy be sad?”
I nodded without hesitation. “Very sad.”
“Daddy too,” Liam added quickly.
Noah smiled in satisfaction, then stood up again and moved his robot around. “When the robot does this, it means he’s saving the city!”
“The city from what?” Liam asked.
“From tired monsters,” Noah answered seriously.
I laughed softly. “Tired monsters?”
“Yeah. Monsters that make people tired and sad.”
Liam and I exchanged a glance. There was a brief silence not awkward, but warm. As if Noah’s answer wasn’t just a child’s imagination.
“Noah’s robot is amazing,” I said. “It can chase those monsters away.”
Noah nodded proudly. “That’s why Mommy and Daddy have to sit here. So it’s safe.”
Liam leaned back against the sofa. “Alright, Mr. Robot.
We’ll obey.”
I leaned back as well, my shoulder nearly touching Liam’s.
Neither of us moved away. No one pulled back. There was just a distance left as it was comfortable.
“Noah,” I called softly. “What do you want for breakfast tomorrow?”
Noah thought hard. “Pancakes. With a smile.”
“Smiling pancakes?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah. Daddy can make them.”
Liam chuckled. “Daddy can try. But if the smile’s crooked, don’t complain.”
“If it’s crooked, it’s still cute,” Noah said confidently.
I turned to Liam. “Looks like you already have a loyal fan.”
Liam smiled at me not at Noah. “I don’t mind.”
I took a sip of water from my glass, trying to hide the warmth creeping up my cheeks. Light conversations likethis were supposed to be ordinary. But the truth was, every word, every small laugh, felt like fragments of a life, Thad been missing for a long time.
Noah sat back down.on the carpet, this time closer to our feet. He set his robot aside and began stacking small blocks.
“Mommy,” he said without looking up, “if the robot gets tired, he’s allowed to sit too, right?”
“The marketing team chose Emily as the model for the company’s latest product campaign,” he went on quietly.” And I only found out when she showed up at the meeting.”
I let out a slow breath. There was a flicker of heat of jealousy but it wasn’t as strong as it used to be. Not like before, when anything involving Emily made me feel threatened.
“Were you surprised?” I asked.
Liam nodded. “Yes. Very.”
I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to process it. He hadn’t chosen Emily. He hadn’t called her. And he clearly hadn’t wanted this to happen.”Are you angry?” Liam asked cautiously, as if afraid of my answer.
I opened my eyes and looked at him. “No.”
He looked startled. “No?”
I shook my head slowly. “No. I was surprised, yes but it’s not your fault, Liam. You didn’t ask the marketing team to pick her, did you?”
“Not at all,” he replied quickly.
“Exactly.” I took a deep breath. “As long as you can work professionally, I won’t make an issue out of it.”
There was a pause of a few seconds. Liam looked at me as if l’d just said something he had never imagined hearing.
“I thought you’d be really angry,” he admitted.
I gave a faint smile. “I thought so too before. But now, somehow, it feels different.”
“Different how?”
