Sienna’s POV
“Hmmm,” Noah thought hard. “Can that uncle draw dinosaurs?”
Liam and l exchanged a look, then laughed together. ” Maybe he can,” Liam said. “But Mommy writes books, not dinosaur pictures.”
Noah nodded, apparently satisfied, then went back to stacking his Lego blocks with full concentration. His tongue stuck out slightly, a little habit that always made my heart melt.
– I leaned my shoulder against the sofa, right next to Liam. ” The trip home took a while,” I said. “There was an accident on the road. Total traffic jam.”
Liam frowned slightly. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” I answered quickly. “It just made me think about a lot of things.”
He didn’t push. Just nodded softly. His hand shifted, resting on the floor near mine. Not touching, but close enough to be felt.
I looked around our living room. Toys scattered everywhere, storybooks slightly crooked on the shelf, the warm glow of the lamp. A view that once felt unfamiliar now felt like part of me. Like something I was slowlychoosing, not forcing.
“Tired?” Liam asked gently.
“A little,” I answered honestly. “But it’s kind of tiring.”
He smiled faintly. “The kind that makes you sleep well.”
I nodded. “And makes your heart feel calm.”
For a few seconds, we just sat in silence, accompanied by the clicking of Lego pieces and Noah’s little huffs whenever his tower nearly collapsed. There was no need to fill the quiet. No pressure to keep talking.
Noah suddenly exclaimed, “Mommy, look! It’s really tall, right?”
I leaned forward. His tower tilted slightly, but it stood proudly. “Yes,” I said sincerely. “It’s very tall.”
Noah grinned wide, then suddenly stood up and grabbed another block. “I’m gonna make a new one again!”
He ran over to the toy box, leaving his old tower behind. I laughed softly as I watched him.
When Noah was once again absorbed in his own world, I sat back and took a quiet breath. I leaned against the sofa and looked at Liam. “Thank you,” I said softly.
“For what?” he asked.
“For today. For supporting me. For making me feelcapable.”
Liam looked at me deeply, then his fingers slowly touched my hand. “Sienna, I’ve always believed you’re capable. I was just waiting for you to realize it.”
Before he could even place the order, Noah suddenly appeared from his bedroom holding a small dinosaur toy.
“Daddy! Mommy!” he shouted happily, running toward us.
“Noah wants burgers! And pizza! The cheese one!”
I couldn’t help laughing at his enthusiasm. “Hey, how did you get ready so fast?” I asked, pulling him onto my lap.
“Noah’s hungry,” he said innocently, hugging his dinosaur tightly. “The dinosaur is hungry too.”
Liam rolled his eyes lightly, pretending to be exasperated.
“Okay, two little customers want burgers and pizza. Can we do that, Chef?” he asked with a grin in my direction.
I pretended to nod seriously. “We can, but don’t blame me if Daddy loses to Noah, who eats like a little monster.”
Noah laughed loudly, his cheeks turning red. “Noah’s not a monster, Mommy! Noah’s big!”
kissed the top of his head, which smelled like soap, “Yes, you’re big. But you’re still my baby.”.Liam finally ordered food accerding to the three of our preferences, occasionally glancing at us with an expression that somehow made my chest feel warm. As if he were taking all the exhaustion and worries of the day and setting them aside, just to make sure this home still felt comfortable.
Seeing them like this Noah so cheerful, Liam so attentive l felt all the nervousness from my meeting with Rudolf slowly fade away. What remained was only gratitude that coming home meant returning to the place where I felt the safest.
