I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to organize my thoughts.
As the plane began to move, all I could do was hope that these two days wouldn’t feel as long as I imagined.
The engines roared louder, vibrations traveling through the seatback into my spine. I opened my eyes as the aircraft surged forward, speed increasing, the world outside the window slowly blurring into streaks. There was a light sensation in my stomach as the wheels lifted from the runway a brief moment between being held and being released then the city shrank below.
I leaned my head back, gazing at the clouds filling my view. White. Calm. As if they didn’t care at all about the small turmoil unfolding inside me.
