Forsaken by the Moon Goddess novel Chapter 95

Sloane

One Month Later

Life has been a whirlwind since Benedict and I began combining the packs. We found an architect who drew up plans for our new packhouse. We had our groundbreaking ceremony a couple of days ago and now there’s a constant stream of trucks coming and going.

While we started having our warrior training in that space, as soon as construction started, we had to move the area a little farther away. Benedict had the idea to have a pack gathering every weekend, and between that and daily warrior training, the two packs seem to be coming together smoothly.

Uncle Roman and Samara brought my brother, sister, and cousins back two weeks after Benedict and I completed our bond. They wanted to see my white wolf and I spent time with Aria, explaining to her what the Moon Goddess told me about our white wolf line. Since my aunt and uncle didn’t know if she’d ever have a white wolf, she never expected to have one, so for her, it wasn’t as impactful as it was for me. Slade was curious about my father and also asked about Gillian and Uncle Theo. He, like Scarlet and Samara, wasn’t surprised that I got my white wolf. I also noticed that Uncle Roman seems more settled now. It’s as if Uncle Theo’s message helped him to let go of something he’d been holding on to for a very long time.

While they were here, we showed them our plans for the packhouse and talked to Uncle Roman about combining the pack’s finances. He had some good ideas for investments which Benedict and I implemented right away.

About a week after their visit, Alpha Benedict returned home with Natalie, proudly introducing her to me, Benedict, and Bethany. He explained that he’d followed her from her original pack to the pack she’d moved to when she’d taken a chosen mate. Her mate, however, had died in a pack war, leaving her to raise her two children alone. Her children are now teenagers, fifteen and seventeen years old.

While Natalie forgave Benedict for rejecting her, she didn’t immediately agree to accepting him as her mate. She wanted to spend time together, to get to know each other again before agreeing to bind herself to him. However, even though their bond was broken, they still felt the pull to each other and after only a couple of weeks, she agreed to complete their bond. Because her children have lived in their pack all their lives, Alpha Benedict agreed to join her pack until they were adults, and then they could decide where they want to live. He offered to have Bethany come live with them, but she wanted to stay and Benedict and I had no problem with her continuing to live with us. 1

It was good to see Alpha Benedict happy. It’s almost like he’s a different person now. Watching him at the dinner table, he couldn’t take his eyes off Natalie. And he laughed. A lot. The first time he did it, both Bethany and Benedict jolted in surprise, frowning as they watched their father belly laugh at the story Natalie was telling us. She had smiled at him, obviously enjoying his happiness as much as he was. Then he’d really surprised us when he leaned over and kissed her. And it wasn’t a simple peck on the lips either. It was a deep, passionate kiss. I didn’t spend a lot of time with Benedict’s family before we were mated, but I know I’d never seen Alpha Benedict look at Beatrice with this level of adoration and he never showed any public displays of affection.

As we waved goodbye to them a couple of days later, Bethany sighed. “Can you imagine how much better his life would have been if Dad had accepted Natalie the first time?”

Benedict had wrapped his arms around me from behind, laying his chin on my shoulder. “Let that be a lesson to you, Bethany. You should always trust the Moon Goddess.”

I turned and looked at my mate. “I know I’m glad I did.”

That was a week ago and now, Benedict and I are getting ready to go to Will and Stephanie’s pack for her Luna ceremony. We’re also going to sign a new alliance agreement with them now that Benedict and I have combined our packs. Scarlet and Daniel are coming with us, so Benedict is working with Gammas Thomas and Travis to manage the pack in our absence. That gave me the time I needed to finally slip away. We’ve been so busy that I just haven’t had time to go see the doctor here. Thankfully, Benedict has been just as busy, so he hasn’t noticed the little signs, like me not shifting. But Scarlet did. 2

“When are you going to confirm what I already know?” she asked yesterday.

I laughed. Leave it to Scarlet.

“I’m going to get confirmation tomorrow. Want to join me?” I asked.

“You’re damn right I do. But do you really need confirmation?” she asked.

I smiled. “I want to have something to give Benedict. I’m getting an ultrasound.”

She had squealed in delight, until I shushed her.

“How long have you known?” she asked.

“Samara insisted I take a pregnancy test while she was here.”

“And you waited this long to tell me?” she growled.

“I’ve been a little busy, Scarlet.”
