Julia looked up too.
She, too, had once assumed Maggie and Johnny were romantically involved.
But after learning the truth about Maggie’s connection with Nolan and Cole, she wasn’t so sure anymore.
She noticed that after Levi’s question, Franklin also turned toward Harry–apparently interested in the answer.
Julia pressed her lips together.
Levi noticed as well, but assumed Franklin was simply curious.
Harry, however, stayed silent for a moment before saying, calmly, “Why don’t you ask her?”
Levi blinked.
He took that as Harry’s way of saying he wasn’t interested in gossip about Maggie and Johnny.
With no one joining in his curiosity, Levi pouted, disappointed.
Julia caught Harry’s response and smiled faintly–mockingly, to anyone who didn’t know better.
If she hadn’t known Harry’s feelings for Maggie, she might have believed, like Levi, that Harry simply didn’t care.
But his silence was, in fact, a quiet defense.
That thought sparked something in her.
A question she’d been overlooking for a long time surfaced.
Maggie was Nolan’s student–and one of Cole’s founders.
Harry might have known that all along.
He’d just chosen not to tell anyone,
At that moment, several political figures arrived, including Jordan Hall.
Jordan carried two gifts and, after some polite greetings, said privately to Maggie and Johnny,
“One of these is from your Uncle Hardin. He’s tied up with work and couldn’t come himself, but he insisted on sending a gift anyway.”
Whatever Reed had sent, its value didn’t matter–the thoughtfulness did, and Maggie and Johnny were truly moved.
Hearing that Jordan had arrived, Rex soon came over. “Uncle Hall.”
Jordan smiled. “Rex! You’re here too?”
“Yeah.”
They were exchanging pleasantries when a sudden commotion rose near the entrance–then abruptly fell silent.
Maggie and Johnny turned toward the noise.
At the reception stood Nolan and Yulia.
“Mr. and Mrs. Nolan are here,” Johnny murmured.
“Mr. Secretary, please excuse us,” Maggie said quickly to Jordan.
Chapter 429
“Our teacher and Mrs. Nolan just arrived.”
Jordan smiled. “Go on.”
They hurried toward the door, but before they could reach them, Yulia released Nolan’s hand and spread her arms wide.
“Maggie! Johnny! We’re here!”
Both Maggie and Johnny went forward to embrace her.
“Mrs. Nolan,” they greeted in unison.
