**Freedom 483**
**Chapter 483**
Maggie found herself with no alternative but to lie down beside Isabella, the little girl nestled comfortably against her. The atmosphere around them was a gentle blend of tranquility and the soft rustle of leaves, neither too quiet nor overly noisy. As she cradled Isabella in her arms, Maggie felt her eyelids growing heavy, and before long, she surrendered to the embrace of sleep.
Time slipped away from her as she drifted off. When she finally stirred, the first thing she noticed was that Isabella was still peacefully asleep, her small frame rising and falling rhythmically against Maggie’s chest.
With a soft sigh, Maggie propped herself up on her elbows, turning her head slightly. Her gaze fell upon Franklin, who remained seated under the shade of the umbrella, engrossed in the pages of a book. He must have sensed her movement, for he lifted his head, his eyes meeting hers.
“Awake?” he inquired, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
Maggie responded with a silent nod, her heart warming at the sight of him, a steady presence in their little world.
Soon after, Isabella began to stir, her eyes fluttering open. She instinctively clung to Maggie for a moment, as if reluctant to leave the comfort of sleep. But soon enough, the allure of the day pulled her from the remnants of her dreams. After splashing water on her face, she shook off her grogginess, her energy bouncing back as she tugged at Maggie’s hand, eager to explore the campsite.
As they wandered, Isabella spotted a group of people snapping photos and her eyes sparkled with excitement. She dashed back to Franklin, her voice bubbling over with enthusiasm. “Dad, take pictures of me and Mom!”
Franklin set his book aside, a smile breaking across his face. “All right.”
Maggie found herself being led around by Isabella, posing for photos as the little girl directed her like a seasoned photographer. Franklin, ever patient, complied with every request, capturing moments of joy between mother and daughter. However, he focused solely on them, never suggesting a picture that included himself. Even when Isabella had taken enough photos and her enthusiasm began to wane, Franklin remained quiet, his own presence lingering in the background, as if he were content to let the two of them share this moment.
The afternoon slipped by, and Maggie stayed with Isabella until the sun dipped low in the sky, well past five o’clock. Only then did they begin to pack up their belongings, each heading back to their own homes, the warmth of the day still lingering in their hearts.
The next morning, Maggie departed from the Miller family home early, her mind already on the tasks awaiting her back in Cole. After dealing with a few pressing work matters, she found herself attending a corporate forum organized by the government, representing her company.
She arrived a bit later than the others, and as she stepped out of her car, fate seemed to play a cruel trick on her. Just as she emerged, she came face to face with Julia.
The moment their eyes met, Julia’s expression hardened, the chill in the air palpable.
Maggie felt her own gaze turn icy, and she had no intention of acknowledging Julia’s presence. Instead, she brushed past her, determined to enter the venue and leave the tension behind. Just then, Rex’s car pulled up, and he stepped out, immediately sensing the charged atmosphere between the two women.
