Chapter 622
Chapter 622
Something clicked for Maria, and she turned to Franklin. “Oh right, isn’t your cooling–off period almost up?”
“Yeah, almost.”
The moment the words left his mouth, Old Mrs. Wilson’s smile vanished. She let out a sharp little “hmph” and stopped acknowledging Franklin altogether.
Isabella wanted to go back to the Miller house.
This time, Franklin drove her over himself.
He dropped Isabella off, exchanged a brief nod with Maggie at the door, and that was about it. Two adults, one quick acknowledgment.
Isabella bounced inside, happy as ever, and Franklin left.
Maggie headed upstairs with Isabella, and the moment she reached the top, her phone buzzed.
A message from Franklin: Anything you still want to change in the agreement?
The end of their cooling–off period had never once slipped her mind. She read it and typed back without hesitating for even a second: No.
Franklin replied just as fast: Okay.
Monday, Maggie was back at Cole grinding away.
She’d originally had an out–of–town work trip lined up for the next couple of days, the kind that could keep her gone for a week. But their cooling–off period ended in three days, and she wanted to be there the moment they could make it official.
So she asked Johnny to cover the trip for her.
Johnny had zero interest in letting anything go sideways with her and Franklin’s divorce. He agreed on the spot. “Done. Leave it to your senior!”
Glen had been keeping close tabs on when the cooling–off period ended. When he heard Maggie had specifically asked Johnny to take her place on the trip, he let out a quiet breath of relief, though he couldn’t stop himself from asking, “So you two can officially divorce in a few days?”
“Yeah.”
The word hit him for just a second, and then a slow smile spread across his face. “Good.”
Once she had that divorce certificate in hand, he’d make his move.
Johnny and Glen weren’t the only ones counting down. The Brown and Green families had been on edge all over again as the date approached, terrified that something, anything, would come up and keep Franklin and Maggie from going through with it.
