Chapter 624
Franklin and Maggie had planned to finalize their divorce that morning, and Levi, Harry, and the rest of them all knew about it.
By ten–thirty, Levi couldn’t help himself and sent a message in the group chat, tagging Franklin: “You guys get the divorce certificate yet? We should all go out for lunch and celebrate!”
The message had barely gone through before Julia and Harry both saw it.
Julia actually held her breath.
Her family had been on edge since early that morning, waiting for news from Franklin’s end. For the past hour or so, her relatives had been blowing up her phone, asking whether Franklin and Maggie had made it official yet. They were all chomping at the bit, desperate to be the first
to hear the news.
And honestly, it made sense. Franklin and Maggie had tried to get divorced so many times before and it never stuck. This was the closest they’d
ever come.
But truth be told, Julia was more anxious and more desperate for that news than any of them.
Back when she’d assumed Maggie was beneath her in every way, when she’d been so sure that Franklin could never look at Maggie twice once he had her, she genuinely hadn’t cared one way or the other when that divorce happened.
But now–The memory of everything that had gone down over the past six months made her chest tighten all over again.
Once they were officially divorced, she and Franklin could finally…A few minutes passed and Franklin still hadn’t replied. Levi was baffled. He tagged Franklin again: “What’s going on? Don’t tell me something went sideways again. Did Maggie pull something?”
Still nothing from Franklin.
Levi turned to the others and tagged Julia and Harry: “What about you guys? You hear anything?”
Harry responded: “No.”
Julia saw that Franklin had gone completely silent, and she was in no mood to answer. On top of that, Daphne was now texting her directly, asking whether Franklin and Maggie had officially divorced yet.
Levi, after waiting and getting nowhere, tried calling Franklin, only to find the line was busy. He couldn’t figure out what was going on, but before he could think it through, a friend called him out of nowhere with news: Felix and Stella had been hurt.
Levi froze. “For real?”
“Dead serious. It’ll probably be all over the news soon.”
After he hung up, Levi posted in the group chat with a knot in his stomach, tagging Harry and Julia: “Just heard, Felix and Stella were in some kind of accident. They were rushed to the hospital not long ago. Status unknown.”
Harry was floored.
Julia just went blank. Once it hit her, she typed back: “When did this happen?”
Levi: “This morning.”
This morning.

Which meant Franklin and Maggie might not have made it to the Civil Center to file the paperwork.
The moment that thought landed, Julia felt a chill wash over her.
Levi and Harry had already stopped thinking about the divorce. They both started calling Franklin, trying to get a read on how Felix and Stella were doing. It took several tries before Franklin finally picked up.
When they heard Felix and Stella were still in the ER, there wasn’t much left to say. They hung up and headed straight to the hospital.
Julia, once she’d snapped back to herself, started calling Franklin too. She called for a long time before he finally had a moment to pick up.
