by the time Maggie arrived. Old Mrs. Miller and Old Mrs. Wilson were already there.

ld Mrs. Wilson had just waved her over to sit down when her phone rang. Whatever was on the other end of the line, it wasn’t good news. her expression ropped almost immediately. A moment later, she said a clipped understoodand hung up.

That was Franklin. Old Mrs. Wilson looked at both of them with an apologetic expression. He was already on his way, but something urgent came up at the ompany. He won’t be able to make it.

Id Mrs. Miller and Maggie both said it was fine, and they meant it. They’d come because they didn’t want to turn down Old Mrs Wilson’s invitation, and on top f that, they were genuinely happy for her that Felix had pulled through.

fter lunch, once the time felt right, Maggie headed back to Cole to finish out the workday.

lix had woken up, but Maggie didn’t go back to visit him at the hospital. With Johnny still out, she kept her head down for the next two days and focused on e work piling up on her desk.

hnny watched them and said, What’s their problem?

e remembered the last time he’d run into them, they’d been practically glowing, all smug about Julia winning the Wilson family’s approval. So why now were ey looking like that?

aggie paused. Probably because Franklin and I still haven’t divorced. So they’re not exactly thrilled.

hnny thought about it. Right. Doesn’t matter how tight Julia and Franklin are, until you two are officially done, she’s still the other woman. Can’t claun the le. So yeah, I guess it tracks that they’d want to strangle you on sight.

hey didn’t give it any more thought after that, and conversation moved on pretty quickly.

lia showed up right around then too.

ophia watched Maggie and Johnny walk away and turned to her sister. How’s Mr. Wilson doing Now?

elix had woken up a couple days ago, but his injuries were severe enough that complications kept flaring up, he’d had two setbacks already and while hed otten through both of them okay, it would probably be a few more days before things fully stabilized.

Franklin says he’s doing a lot better than the first couple days.

So then

Sophia wanted to ask whether Franklin had said anything about when Julta might be able to visit Felix and Stella at the hospital

I wasn’t that Julia hadn’t wanted to go. It was just that in the days right after the accident, old Mis Wilson had been in a tervise state varmth for either of their families to begin with That was clearly not the moment for Julia to show up
