Chapter 454
The shower helped. The hot water beat against my skin, warming me
up, washing away some of the fear clinging to me. I didn’t linger—just
enough to feel human again. I dried off quickly and stepped back into
the bedroom with a towel wrapped securely around me.
That’s when I noticed the clothes.
A beautiful pastel pink long–sleeved dress with a square neckline.
Then the other was a green palm print maxi dress with a slit by the
side.
They were laid out neatly on the bed, folded with precision. I reached
out, brushing my fingers over the fabric when the door opened.
I startled, sucking in a sharp breath just as a young woman stepped
inside.
She froze.
“Oh! I–I’m so sorry,” she blurted immediately, eyes dropping to the floor as she clutched the doorframe. “I didn’t realize you were out
“It’s okay,” I said quickly, steadying myself. “I should’ve locked the

door.”
She remained stiff, posture straight, hands folded in front of her. She
was young, pretty in a soft way, with dark eyes and carefully pinned
brown hair. Nervousness radiated off her in waves.
“I was told to bring fresh clothes and towels,” she said formally. “For
you. Miss Savannah.”
So she knew who I was.
“Thank you,” I said gently.
She nodded, clearly unsure how to respond to gratitude. When she
turned to leave, something stopped me. “Wait,” I said. “What’s your
name?”
She hesitated, discomfort flashing across her face. “It’s–it’s not
necessary, ma’am.”
“I’d still like to know,” I said.
A pause. Then, softly, “Bella. You can call me Bella.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Bella.”

She nodded again, relief and uncertainty tangled together, before
slipping out of the room.
Once dressed, I took one last look around before heading next door-
to Roman.
The room was quiet, filled with the low, steady hum of machines
keeping him alive. He lay still, impossibly calm, chest rising faintly
beneath the thin blanket.
I crossed to him, my chest aching.
“I’m here,” I whispered, taking his hand. “I hate this place. I hate
being here without you.”
I leaned down, pressing my forehead briefly to his. “They’re trying to
break me, Roman. They think they can scare me into giving in. But 1 won’t let them. I won’t let them take you away from me. Or our baby.”
My throat tightened.
“I just need you to wake up now,” I murmured. “Please. I’m begging
you. Wake up.”
I stayed with him a while longer before finally pulling myself away.

When I left the room, I asked for directions to the dining room as I
passed maids in the halls. Each one pointed me the right way, eyes
lowered, voices hushed.
By the time I reached the dining room doors, my stomach was
knotted tight.
Two guards flanked the entrance. I took a deep breath and pushed the
doors open.
Conversation paused.
At the table, already seated, was the lean man from the courtyard.
The one riding the horse earlier. He was seated on the left beside
Ramsey. And I immediately figured out who he was.
Randall. I knew it instantly.
He sat beside Ramsey and Rosie, relaxed now, fully dressed,
expression angry still. My gaze flicked instinctively to the right.
Ryan sat there. My pulse spiked.
But thankfully, he didn’t even look up once from his tablet. He didn’t
pay me any attention.

Beside him was Reese then next to Reese was Alex. Then there was an
empty seat in between Alex and River.
Alex raised a hand excitedly, wiggling his fingers in a wave. “Hi,
there! Sleep well?” He said loudly.
I swallowed. Then nodded stiffly. “Yes. I did.”
I moved toward an empty seat near Ramsey, but paused halfway.
“Where’s Riley?” I asked.
She wasn’t at the table. Riley wasn’t here.
Ramsey was the one who answered. “Riley can’t make it to breakfast
anymore. She’s busy with her classes.”
My heart dropped.
“Sir added two more languages to her six–language course for her to
perfect. Arabic and Japanese.” He said, looking down. “She’s also
learning how to play the violin and the saxophone.”
“What?!” I screamed. “That’s too much.”
“I did try to warn her yesterday.” Rosie chuckled, cutting into the

conversation. “Actions do have consequences. Including harmless
gossip.”
I glared at her. “I wasn’t talking to you, Missy. Stay out of this.”
She arched a brow in surprise.
I moved to sit beside Ramsey and find out from him. But the lean man
with the goatee sure had other plans.
“Hey, you.” He said. “To the right.”
I paused. “Excuse you?”
“Instructions,” he murmured. “Right side. Now.”
“Why?” I asked, defiant. “I sat here last night.”
“You don’t want to sit with me?” Alex faked hurt. “I’m wounded. I
thought we connected last night.”
