Randall sighed theatrically and turned back. “Of course I have,” he said. “You already know that. Monitoring the cameras is basically my

job.”

“Why is there even a camera in here?” I demanded. “Are you that sick that you watched your brother get injected with sedatives and said nothing?” My voice shook. “You saw that man come in here. Didn’t you?”

Silence.

“Answer me!”

“Yes.” The word landed with a certain weight even though he’d just said casually. “I saw him.”

My vision blurred. “How many times?” I whispered. “How long has this been happening?”

Randall studied me. “What do you think, Savannah?”

The bile rose in my throat. “You’re disgusting.”

He tilted his head. “Am I? Or am I just doing what I was raised to do?”

“He’s your brother for crying out loud!”

“Yes,” he agreed calmly. “But brothers don’t disappear for years without a word. That’s not exactly the definition of loyalty, is it?”

I staggered back, stunned. “That doesn’t excuse this. How could you?”

His gaze sharpened–just slightly. “It’s hard to see things from another perspective when you’ve been labeled a bad guy your entire life.”

I said nothing.

“I have one job,” he continued. “And I do it well.” He glanced at his watch. “Excuse me. I’m late for dinner.”

Reese stepped aside, Randall walked out. Just like that. When the door shut, the silence was suffocating.

River grabbed my arm, panic written across her face. “What do we do now?”

“I’m moving in with Roman,” I said immediately. “I’m staying here. I don’t care if I have to sleep on the floor.”

Reese shook his head. “You’re not sleeping on the floor in your condition. I’ll have your bed brought in.”

“I’ll help,” River said.

12:55 Sat, Jan 31

Chapter 468

I scanned the room, heart racing. “Where is it?”

“What?” Reese asked. “What are you talking about?”

“That camera.” I said. “I’m going to smash it. I want to get rid of it. If I’m going to be sleeping in here then I don’t want your creepy

brother watching me.”

He caught my wrist gently. “Ramsey will handle it. He’s good with cameras. If father asks, I’ll tell him you’re moving in and you want

privacy.”

“Thank you,” I breathed. “About Doctor Ben. How do we get him in here to flush his system? Your father will find out from Randall. Or

even the staff. Especially the guards.”

River nodded.

“About that, Savannah,” Reese continued, “Doctor Ben–bringing him here isn’t possible.”

Fear clawed at my chest. “Then what? What do we do?”

“Since you’re moving in here, I doubt that peasant is going to have the guts to sedate Roman. So, basically, if the guard doesn’t give him more sedatives,” Reese said slowly, “there’s a chance Roman’s body will flush them out naturally.”

Hope flickered. “So he’ll wake up soon?”

“There’s a chance,” he said carefully.

“How soon?” I asked frantically, “Will he remember me? Will he-”

“I don’t know, okay?” Reese snapped, exhausted. “We’ll just have to find out if he wakes up. In the meantime, make sure you’re always around him. Just stay with him. Talk to him. That might help. Sometimes, comatose patients can hear you when you speak to them.”

“I will,” I whispered. “I’ll do that.”

River squeezed my shoulder. “I’ll come every day.”

“Thank you.”

Then she asked quietly, “What about the guard?”

I looked at Roman. “I don’t know. Where do I even begin to look for him?” I admitted. “I was going to let Roman deal with him when he wakes up. But at the same time, I don’t want him to get away. Especially since I don’t even know his name or how to look for him. Who

do I even ask about him?”

River’s eyes hardened. “Leave that to me. I know just the person to ask.”
