Chapter 527
Chapter 298: You’re Incredible
Savannah
One Month Later
I angled my body slightly, turning this way and that in front of the mirror as if a new perspective might reveal something I hadn’t already memorized. My hand rested over the gentle curve of my stomach, fingers splayed with a tenderness that felt instinctive.
I was showing.
Not dramatically swollen though. But enough that strangers would know. But to me, who had watched every subtle change with near–obsessive attention, it was unmistakable. A gentle rounding. A softness where there had once been flatness.
There was proof that something miraculous was unfolding inside me.
A smile spread slowly across my face. I traced slow circles over my belly, imagining tiny fingers, tiny toes, a heartbeat so small yet so determined.
I couldn’t wait to feel the first kick. I couldn’t wait for the moment this invisible, tiny presence made itself known in a way I could feel, not just believe.
I had been lucky. My doctor said so at every visit. Minimal morning sickness. No severe fatigue. My body had accepted this new life with surprising grace. The nausea came and went like a passing cloud. It was unpleasant, yes, but never overwhelming.
I was grateful for that. Profoundly grateful.
Strong arms slid around me from behind, warm palms covering my hands where they rested on my stomach.
Roman’s chin settled against my shoulder, his breath ghosting over my skin. “What’s on your mind, baby?” he murmured.
I leaned back into him, comforted instantly by his presence. “Nothing,” I said softly. “Just… admiring. It still doesn’t feel real.”
His lips brushed the side of my neck in a slow, affectionate kiss. “I can show you how real it is,” he whispered, voice low with familiar mischief.
I laughed, swatting his arm lightly, “Roman… stop it.”
He chuckled, giving my hip a playful squeeze before stepping away. “Are you ready?”
I gave myself one last look in the mirror. Loose pants. Soft tee. Comfort over fashion was an easy choice these days. Tight clothing made me restless and irritable. My body had its own rules now, and I obeyed them willingly.
“Ready,” I said.
He watched me with quiet attentiveness, the protective instinct that had sharpened over the past month never far from the surface.
“Still up for looking at houses later?” he asked. “It’s supposed to get hot today.”
Excitement sparked instantly. “Of course I am. I’ve been waiting all week.”

We’d been searching for a new home–something built not from history, but from intention. A place chosen for lots of laughter yet to happen. For footsteps yet to echo down hallways. For memories not shadowed by anything that came before.
Roman still looked unconvinced. “You’ll get tired,” he said. “And the heat-”
I pressed my finger gently to his lips. “I’m pregnant, not fragile. I can handle a little heat.”
His brow arched. “Completely sure?” he asked.
“Yes, sir,” I replied dramatically, grabbing my bag. “Now come on. I want to hear my baby’s heartbeat.”
His expression softened immediately. “Me too.”
The hospital seemed to love antiseptic and polished floors. It was a scent that once would have made my stomach tighten, but now it simply meant
reassurance. Monitoring. Care. Safety.
Roman’s hand never left mine as we checked in and were led to the examination room.
Dr. Morgan entered a few minutes later with her usual calm smile and warm presence. She greeted us warmly before glancing at her chart.
“How have you been feeling, Savannah?” she asked, settling onto her stool.
“Good,” I said honestly. “A little more tired than my usual non–pregnant self but nothing major.”
She smiled. “Any nausea?”
“Sometimes. But manageable.”
She nodded approvingly. “And eating well?”
koman answered before I could. “She forgets sometimes. But don’t worry, I always remind her.”
I shot him a look. “Don’t listen to him. He wants me stuffing my face with food literally every hour of the day.”
Dr. Morgan churkled softly. “That’s common. Smaller, frequent meals help.”
She asked a few more routine questions–sleep patterns, discomfort, exercise, emotional state. Her voice was soothing and efficient without ever feeling
rushed.
Everything was normal. Everything was progressing well. My baby was clearly doing well.
“Let’s take a listen,” she said finally.
My heart jumped.
Roman helped me onto the examination table, his hand warm at the small of my back. The paper sheet crinkled beneath me as I settled down, suddenly aware of every breath, every flutter of anticipation.

Dr. Morgan squeezed clear gel onto my belly. “It’ll be a little cold,” she warned gently.
