Chapter 528
Dr. Morgan squeezed clear gel onto my belly. “It’ll be a little cold,” she warned gently.
She wasn’t exaggerating. I sucked in a breath as the coolness spread across my abdomen. Roman immediately took my hand, his thumb stroking slow circles across my skin, grounding me.
The wand moved with practiced precision. A soft static filled the room through the monitor’s speaker. For a moment there was nothing but soundless waiting.
Then… we heard it. A rapid, rhythmic thumping burst into the room.
My breath caught as the sound kept repeating in my ear. Roman froze beside me.
Dr. Morgan smiled, adjusting the angle slightly. “There we go. That’s a very strong heartbeat.”
The sound filled the space, steady and alive. The sound of our child’s heartbeat. There was another heart beating inside me.
Oh my God. It’s still like a dream. I can’t believe this is real.
Emotion rose so quickly it startled me. Tears blurred my vision before I even realized they were forming. I squeezed Roman’s hand, unable to speak.
That sound. That tiny, relentless rhythm. That was proof. That was life. That was our child.
Roman bent forward, pressing a trembling kiss to my forehead. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t even need to. Gratitude radiated from him in waves so
strong I could feel it in the air between us.
I laughed softly through tears, overwhelmed and proud and impossibly full. “I did that,” I whispered. “I really did that, Roman.”
He nodded, eyes bright. “You did, my love.”
Dr. Morgan watched us with patience before speaking again. “If you’d like to know the gender of-”
I didn’t hesitate.
“No,” I said quickly. “We want it to be a surprise.”
Roman glanced at me, smiling softly in agreement. “Yes. We don’t want to know just yet.”
Dr. Morgan nodded, moving the wand slightly across my abdomen. Then she paused Her brow lifted
The speaker crackled again and another rapid rhythm joined the first Distinct and separate from the first
My heart stopped. “What’s that?”
Roman blinked. “Wait.”
Dr. Morgan’s smile widened slowly, knowingly. “Well,” she said warmly, “it sounds like we have two very strong heartbeats. Seems like we have a little runaway in there.”

Chapter 528
There was silence first. Then everything happened at once.
“Two?” I whispered. “I’m having two babies at once?”
Roman’s eyes went wide with astonished delight. He looked from my belly to me and back again, laughter breaking free from him like sunlight bursting
through clouds.
“Twins?” he breathed.
“Twins,” Dr. Morgan confirmed. “Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Blackwood.”
Roman actually pumped his fist in the air before turning to me. “We’re having twins,” he said, voice full of wonder.
I laughed and cried at the same time, disbelief and joy colliding in a rush so powerful it nearly left me breathless.
Two heartbeats. Two lives. Two tiny miracles growing quietly inside me.
Roman leaned down again, pressing his forehead to mine. His voice, when he spoke, was hushed. “You’re incredible, my love,” he murmured.
I felt incredible. Terrified, amazed, emotional beyond words–but also deeply, overwhelmingly happy.
Dr. Morgan continued the scan, pointing out small details, offering reassurance, answering Roman’s rapid stream of questions with calm amusement.
Everything looked healthy. Everything was fine.
When the exam ended, she gently cleaned the gel from my stomach with a soft towel. “You’re doing beautifully,” she told me. “Both babies are thriving.”
Both babies. The words still felt unreal.
Roman helped me sit up, his touch careful and reverent.
Even as we left the room, our fingers remained intertwined, neither of us willing to let go. Outside, the world seemed brighter, sharper and filled with possibility.
Roman opened the car door for me, but before I stepped in, he pulled me into his arms and held me tightly, one hand cradling the back of my head. “Thank you,” he whispered into my hair.
Emotion surged again, but this time it was softer. “I should be thanking you.” I admitted quietly.
He didn’t say a word, just placed a kiss on my head.
We weren’t just moving forward now, we were expanding and growing as individuals. We were becoming something larger than ourselves.
Two heartbeats. Two futures. One life we would build together. And for the first time in a long time, everything ahead felt not uncertain–but beautifully and undeniably right.
