“Hmm,” was my quiet reply. Yes, Gilneas City, the Graves Pack… there truly was an overwhelming amount of refuse here in need of a thorough cleansing. George… that man who moved like a shadow. The seemingly placid waters of Gilneas‘ werewolf society were undoubtedly about to be stirred.
My brother paused on the line, sounding slightly awkward, as if unaccustomed to gentler tones. “Make it swift. Clean house thoroughly, then return to the Western Continent.”
I understood his meaning. The Western Continent was the true seat of our family’s power, the territory of the Langley Pack. There, no one would dare lay a finger on me so easily.
A faint, cold smile touched my lips. “Understood.”
He added a few more terse reminders about safety and not overexerting myself before the call ended.
Just after I set the phone down, Chloe returned, her arms laden with a soft bundle of sleepwear and a toiletry bag. The moment she stepped in, her sharp eyes zeroed in on my neck, where a few faint, red lines remained from the earlier tussle in Iris‘ room.
‘Stars above!” Chloe gasped, dropping the items onto a chair and rushing over. “Did that venomous little she–wolf claw you?”
She leaned in for a closer inspection and let out a relieved sigh. “Thank the Moon, they’re just surface scratches. No real damage.” But her tone quickly shifted back to fury. “That Iris, playing the delicate, wronged saint in front of the Graves Pack, but her claws are sharp enough when she’s cornered! And she resorts to such cheap, petty moves!”
said calmly, “She came out of it worse than I did.”
“Did you clash again?” Chloe’s eyes widened. “You didn’t have those marks when I left! Did you… have another round with her after Eleanor showed up?”
“After you left, Eleanor came to my room,” I explained, my voice flat. “She tried to force me into a formal apology to Iris.”
Chloe stared, disbelief washing over her features. “She what? Iris is the one slithering between mates, and Eleanor expects you to apologize to her? Did a rogue Alpha chew through her common sense?!”
“And they were utterly convinced of their own righteousness,” I added.
“I swear by the Moon Goddess! I’ve encountered shamelessness, but this… this is a new breed!” Chloe was so incensed she spun in a frustrated circle. “Even when Ethan was alive, she was secretly obsessed with Julian–that was twisted enough! Now that Ethan’s gone, is she just going to flaunt her madness in the open? And she has the audacity to demand your apology? It’s despicable!”
“So… you went and taught her another lesson?” Chloe asked, her gaze searching mine.
I gave a single, slow nod. “Naturally. If they were so eager to see me submit, I felt obliged to give them a proper demonstration of what that looks like.”
Chloe was silent for a beat. That was certainly one formidable way to “bow” and, admittedly, deeply satisfying Yet, her practical worry swiftly resurfaced. “Lily, I told you–Iris‘ mother, Margaret, has a reputation for being viciously overprotective. If you keep provoking them so openly, I’m truly afraid for you. If you’re set on taking them down, let me help you plan. Can’t we be more… strategic? Quieter?”

She looked at me, her eyes pools of genuine concern. “I’m scared if you push them into a corner, you won’t just lose the Moonvale project. Your jewelry design studios, the art gallery… all the businesses you’ve built under your own name could be targeted. Those are your life’s work! You have several private ventures, and they’re all doing so well right now. It’s not worth letting Margaret crush them out of sheer spite.”
Chloe’s fears were logical. Margaret wielded significant influence in the werewolf business underworld and was infamous for her arrogant, retaliatory strikes. Many smaller enterprises lived in fear of crossing her, terrified of losing everything.
I reached out and gave Chloe’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “Don’t worry. I know exactly what I’m doing.”
Eleanor’s POV:
Watching Iris lie on the treatment bed, her face as pale as fresh parchment, a tight, protective ache clenched in my chest. It had taken the medical team over an hour to finally stanch the bleeding from her reopened incision. Julian had remained outside the room the entire time. I knew Iris could sense his presence. Only with him nearby did her panicked, spiraling emotions gradually
