See? A perfectly timed prediction. In Iris‘ eyes, whatever existed between Julian and me was that fragile, that easily broken. He would abandon me–his rightful mate–again and again for his precious sister–in–law. She had even timed it down to the minute.
Julian’s expression darkened, his chest rising and falling with controlled tension. “Lillian…”
“You don’t believe it, do you?” I cut him off, having no need for his justifications. When had he ever believed me over the past six months? Whenever Iris was involved, anything I said was dismissed as irrational jealousy.
I turned my phone screen toward him, displaying the clear notification about the recalled message. “See this? ‘Message Recalled“.”
Julian remained silent, but his eyes confirmed he had seen it.
“If that message was truly innocent, completely harmless, why recall it the instant someone else might see it?” My voice was calm, as if stating the most obvious fact in the world.
Truthfully, what kind of person Iris was deep down mattered little to me now. But I was going to do this–plant these seeds of doubt in Julian’s mind, one by one, whether he chose to acknowledge them now or not.
We stared at each other in heavy silence. His eyes were deep, clouded like an impenetrable mist. I couldn’t decipher what he was thinking.
I was the first to look away, my tone reverting to detached indifference. “Aren’t you leaving? Aren’t you worried your precious sister–in–law might genuinely spiral and harm herself, or the newborn pup?”
Julian drew a sharp breath, seeming to want to explain. “It isn’t what you imagine between us. You know, with Ethan gone, I am only-”
“Whatever noble justification you have for tending to her,” I interrupted him coldly once more, “the formal petition to sever our mate–bond will be delivered to you by noon tomorrow.”
Hearing the words “sever our mate–bond“, Julian’s face clouded over completely. The oppressive aura of an Alpha instantly saturated the hospital room. “Sever the bond? Lillian, don’t push this too far!”
“Too far?” I arched a brow, finding the accusation bitterly ironic coming from him. “I haven’t even begun to show you how far I can go.”
He had left me for Iris, time and again. And now, my mere suggestion to dissolve a bond that had already been rendered meaningless was considered going too far? What, then, of Iris costing me two children? What of her stealing my design? Where did those acts fall? This was merely the opening move.
Julian clearly saw the resolute, cold hatred in my eyes. He took a step closer, his voice dropping to a low, undeniable warning “You will drop this lawsuit against her. It serves no purpose.”
I heard the implicit threat. Folding my hands in my lap, I met his gaze squarely. “Are you threatening me?”
“What you’re attempting is futile,” he repeated, his tone glacial.
Futile?

Because Iris had the backing of the entire Graves Pack, plus a mother with formidable influence?
I looked at him once more, enunciating each word with crisp, cold clarity. “Then keep your eyes open. Watch closely and see if, with all of you standing behind her, I can truly reach her or not.”
I deliberately stressed the phrase “all of you“. All of you in the Graves Pack. All of you on her side. In the landscape of my world now, the battle lines were starkly drawn. And he, Julian, stood firmly among “them“.
Julian’s chest heaved. He was furious, provoked by the utter finality and the vast, icy distance in my words and my stare.
We erupted into a fierce, heated argument right there in the sterile room. No matter what conditions he proposed, no matter the sum of money he offered as compensation, I refused to yield on withdrawing the lawsuit against Iris.
