Seeing that message in the dimly lit room, Lillian finally let her body relax completely. A genuine, effortless smile spread across her face.
Chloe glanced over from across the couch. “What’s got you smiling like that?”
“Julian signed the bond termination papers.”
For a second, Chloe just stared, processing the words. Then she let out a short, humorless laugh. “So Iris really does come before everything else, huh.”
Back then, he’d refused to break the bond no matter what Lillian said. Now, with one of the pups gone, he suddenly couldn’t sign fast enough.
She didn’t even know what to call Julian anymore.
“She’s just good at playing the victim,” Lillian replied quietly.
If anything had ever truly mattered to Julian, it was Ethan’s death. His brother died, leaving Iris pregnant, and Julian acted like those pups became his personal burden to carry.
“Doesn’t matter whose fault it is,” Chloe shrugged, reaching for her drink. “Any Omega tangled up with that guy is straight–up unlucky.”
The whole pup situation was messed up enough. But this thing with his brother’s widow? That was a whole other level of messy.
“This isn’t just ending a mating bond,” Chloe went on, her tone turning sharp. “This is you getting out of hell. Honestly, it’s like being released from prison.”
She didn’t hold back, trash–talking the Graves Pack with every other sentence. With Iris constantly playing the damsel in distress these past six months, living at Graves Estate had felt exactly like a prison sentence for Lillian.
Speaking of which-
Noticing Lillian had gone quiet, typing on her phone, Chloe added, “You know Iris actually thinks she has a chance with Julian now that you’re out of the picture? It’s disgusting.
“The whole city’s been dragging her and Julian through the mud lately, and she’s still daydreaming.”

Lillian put her phone down. “Just. forget about her. It’s over.”

And she meant it–she felt completely at peace. Letting go of this relationship, of Julian, felt like shrugging off a heavy coat she’d been wearing for years.
With the bond termination finally signed, a weight was gone. She was in such good spirits that she immediately texted Edmund with the news.
His reply came quickly. “Got a rebirth gift for you.”
“What is it?” She typed back, eyebrows raised.
A gift for ending a mating bond? That was a new one. She’d never heard of breakup presents before.
“Secret!” he responded.
Lillian rolled her eyes. “Sure. A secret.”
Downstairs, George was just hanging up the phone when Edmund’s call came through. Edmund’s voice was calm but carried an edge. “No need to go easy on the Graves Pack anymore. All of them-”
The way he said all of them was ice–cold.
Everything he’d done before? That was just playing around.
Previously, he’d only targeted Graves Group, and even then, he’d just been giving Julian a headache–mostly because he wasn’t sure how his little sister really felt about Julian, or if the bond would actually get dissolved.
But now things were different.
Seeing how relieved she was to be free… Now that they were officially done, the little princess of the Langley Pack had been through too much. This wasn’t ending here.
“Understood,” George replied.
“Start her ‘rebirth gift‘ with the Graves Pack.”
“Good. I’ve already set some things in motion,” George said.
Having worked for Edmund for years, George knew how his boss operated.
So the moment he’d heard that Ethan’s daughter had died and Lillian had returned to Starfall

Mountain, he’d figured her ties to Julian were effectively severed.
He’d made arrangements ahead of time for what he knew was coming.

After hanging up, George made another call. “Win the red diamond at the auction tomorrow.”
“Consider it done.”
“And anything else worth having at that auction–take it all. Don’t leave a single piece for the Graves Pack.”
He’d heard Eleanor had planned to bid on the red diamond as a reward for Iris giving birth to twins.
Now, with one pup dead, Eleanor hadn’t canceled the plan–probably intending to win the diamond as some kind of consolation for Iris.
But something that precious? No way was it ending up in Iris‘ hands now.
Lillian had no idea how vindictive Edmund could be. She was completely in the dark about his plans.
That night, she slept soundly, deeply, for the first time in months.
Julian, on the other hand, didn’t sleep at all.
He’d called Victor and Liam, who’d picked up thinking they were heading to a bar. Instead, they found him by the river downtown.
When they arrived, several empty liquor bottles were scattered around him. Julian was drunk -completely out of it, slumped against the railing with glassy eyes.
Liam shot Victor a look. “What’s going on with him?”
Victor just shrugged.
Was it even a question? Julian must’ve had another blowout with Lillian. She’d been causing more drama lately, and Julian clearly couldn’t handle her even if he tried.
Victor walked over and sat down beside Julian, with Liam taking a seat on the other side. Neither spoke. They just sat there with him, staring at the dark water flowing past.
Julian knew they were there.

He let out a bitter, ragged laugh. “What the hell even is responsibility? Since when does responsibility matter more than your own mate?”
Victor stayed silent.
So did Liam.
Neither had a response.
Victor had been dragged out drinking the night before and had slept through most of the day, totally out of the loop on what had gone down in the city recently.
Work had been slamming him, too—everything in the news over the past few days was just noise to him.
And Liam? He’d been sent out of town on family business and had only just gotten back that evening.
Looking at Julian now–drunk, shattered, lost–neither of them had a clue how bad t really gotten between him and Lillian.
