My heart pounded so hard it felt like it echoed through my ribs as I stepped toward Ezra, the bouquet trembling slightly in my grasp. I had never done anything like this–never orchestrated a surprise in public, never placed myself so openly on display.

Doubt clawed at me.

What if this went wrong?

What if I had just humiliated both of us?

Ezra exhaled slowly beside me, his expression shifting into something dangerously calm. “So all of you were involved? That explains that silly ‘urgent business meeting.””

“It was me,” I admitted softly. “I’m the one who asked Archer for help and for the tutorial on how to operate the drone.” A small, nervous laugh slipped past my lips. “I only learned a few hours before you arrived.” I hesitated, then asked more quietly, “Was decent? My mate designs things like this so effortlessly. I thought..I should at least be able to use one.”

Something in his expression softened instantly.

“Lylah,” he murmured.

Then, without warning, he pulled me in again and kissed me.
