Shirley slapped her thigh and sighed.

“Zera, Mr. Winter already uncovered everything. He knows the ‘rescue‘ back then was planned by our whole family. He also tracked exactly where the 60 million went.

“If we hadn’t found your aunt in time, he would’ve had all of us locked up.”

A thunderclap went off in Zera’s skull.

She’d schemed for so long, and he knew everything.

She looked around at her family, helplessness spilling into panic. “What am I supposed to do now?”

There was no going back to Tuspuyria.

Zera’s brother, Julian, stepped in to calm things down.

“Zera, Daphne’s right. It had to be Mr. Winter and his fiancée cooking this up together. They had all the evidence ready. They let that fiancée feed us a fake tip to lure you back just to take revenge and send us all to jail.”

Shirley pointed at her daughter. “Your brother and sister–in–law were trying to help you. If you’d had the spine to lock down Mr. Winter back then, we wouldn’t be here. Now, it’s all gone–empty–handed and wrecked. If not for your aunt, our whole family would be finished.”

Daphne stabbed a finger at Zera. “Face it—this is as far as you go. Take that little brat of yours and get out the way you came.”

Shirley was torn and hesitant, afraid to speak up.

Julian moved to intervene, and Daphne shoved him off with both hands..

Eyes rimmed red, Zera looked utterly wrecked. “Daphne, I ended up like this for our family. I just got out–I don’t even have a cent. Where am I supposed to go with the child?”

Daphne swung an arm wide. “Anywhere you want. This apartment isn’t big enough for all of you.”

Zera planted herself in the living room. “This place was bought with my money. Why can’t I live here?”

Daphne went full shrew. “You say you paid for it–got proof? If you call it, will it answer you?”

As soon as she spoke, she pointed at Shirley. “And you, old woman–look at the daughter you raised. Get out. You go with her.”

Julian rushed in. “Daphne, what are you doing? Mom still has to watch our kid. Why are you throwing her out, too?”

Daphne rounded on her husband. “You spineless fool–if you dare let your mother and sister stay, I’ll divorce you today.”

She stormed into the bedroom and started flinging Shirley’s and Zera’s things out into the hallway.

“Out!

“All of you, out!”

Kicking at luggage with her foot, she shoved the two women toward the door.
