Michael understood his wife immediately. “Zera if Brad hadn’t told us the truth, you’d still be lying. We haven’t been mad at you and have eated you like family. Can’t you put your pride aside for this family for a little while?”

Lysander jumped in, trying to make things worse. “Grandma, look at this. Michael and Sophia care about her at every turn. They only asked her to move out for a few days so we could fix the situation, but she won’t. She never saw us as family!”

Hearing Natasha sigh in disappointment, Zera panicked and said quickly, “Lysander, that’s not true. I can’t leave because I really do see all of you as family.”

She begged Natasha, “Grandma, I know I was wrong. Please don’t make me go. I’ll do whatever you say.”

She couldn’t leave the Hills.

If she walked out today, she might never come back.

Natasha, exhausted, pushed Zera’s hands gently away and stood up.

She said, “Zera, just listen to Michael and Sophia”

Lilian quickly helped Natasha to her room, and Thomas followed them out.

Zera’s head was spinning. Her mind was a mess.

Sophia told the butler, “Go pack Ms. Caldwell’s things.”

Then she added on purpose, “Zera is only moving out for a short time. Just pack some clothes. No need to take anything valuable.”

Zera panicked. “Sophia, what do you mean by that?”

Sophia explained, “Zera, I’m doing this for your own good. If people see you carrying lots of bags out, they might think we kicked you out.”

Zera wasn’t stupid.

At the family welcome party, the gifts she received were worth a lot of money.

Zera tried to go upstairs, but Lilian—who had come back to the living room–stood in her

way.

While Zera was still thinking about how to grab the valuable things from her room, the butler came down carrying just one suitcase.

Zera reached for it to look inside, but Sophia stopped her. “I’ll drive you to where you’ll stay. You can open it when we get there.”

Sophia said, “You’ll stay here for now. When Grandma calms down, she’ll come get you herself.”

Zera looked at the studio, and her face turned pale. It was so small.

The furniture was old and worn, and it seemed like no one had lived there for years.

She couldn’t believe this terrible woman had actually left her here.

Zera gritted her teeth and asked Sophia, “You want me to stay here?”

She threw her suitcase onto the floor, trying to threaten her. “Does Grandma know you’re treating me like this?”

Sophia looked her over and smirked.

She said, “Zera, should I call you naïve or dumb?

Then she added, “You gave Grandma a kidney, and you’re the only daughter of her favorite youngest son. If she hadn’t agreed, who would even dare treat you like this?”

Zera shook her head, feeling shocked. “No… Grandma is just angry right now. She’ll come for

me soon.”

But Sophia’s words hit her hard. “Do you even know what kind of place the Hills are? We let you in before only because Grandma kept it from us. Now we see how cruel you are. Do you think anyone here would let you back in?”

Zera’s voice trembled with fear. “I’m part of this family, too! You can’t kick me out!”

Sophia laughed sharply. “Zera, my in–laws, my husband, his two brothers, and I–we are all connected. You can’t even imagine how much we’ve done for the Hills. Do you think Grandma would throw us away just for someone with a terrible past like yours?”

Sophia nodded. “Zera just moved out of the Hill Estate. She’s upset. Since you’re her friends, go upstairs and talk to her. Cheer her up.”

Taking advantage of the moment, she quickly told Jenny and the others exactly which apartment Zera was in, then got into her car and drove away.
