Aella pushed his hand away. Daniel couldn’t help himself and leaned in to steal a kiss.

She pointed at him and warned, “Don’t do that again.”

Daniel’s gaze softened. “Ever since that night, I’ve wanted to kiss you every day. I was worried you’d get mad, so I held back.”

He had held it in for days. Now that she had agreed to be his girlfriend, how could he hold it back?

Aella saw the hungry look in his eyes; she quickly stepped away from the bed. “Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll leave now.”

Daniel sat upright, hands clasped in front of him. “Dad, I’m serious about Aella. I’d marry her tomorrow if I could.”

Lilian leaned forward at once. “How many people are in Dr. Reid’s family? What do her parents do? What do they like? Any habits or things we should avoid? Tell us everything.”

When they mentioned Aella’s family, Daniel’s eyes darkened slightly.

Her family liked Tyrone. Her younger brother admired and depended on him deeply.

“Mom,” Daniel said, “they are good people. Her family is well–off. Her younger brother goes to Citypeak High and does very well in school. Her father likes playing chess and sometimes goes. to chess clubs or the park downtown to play chess. Her mother is a homemaker who mostly shops for groceries, cooks, and keeps the house. She doesn’t have any special hobbies.”

Lilian slapped her husband’s shoulder. “Starting tomorrow, you go hang around chess clubs and the downtown park. Find Dr. Reid’s father and play chess with him. I’ll spend more time at the supermarket.”
