Chapter 565 I Don’t Want You as My Dad

Faced with his son’s coldness, Ralph’s temper flared and he shot to his feet. “I’m your father! What kind of attitude is this?”

Tyrone’s expression remained calm. “I’m just getting to the point. I’m not throwing a tantrum or saying anything out of line. I don’t see a problem with my attitude.”

They both stared each other down.

Ralph pointed at Tyrone, his face twisted with anger.

“You’re the sole heir to the Winters. Your grandfather had a stroke because of you and you couldn’t care less. Your mother wants a divorce and took your sister back to her parents‘ house for weeks, and you haven’t lifted a finger.”

Ralph demanded, “We’re family. Your own flesh and blood. How can you be so cold?”

Tyrone stepped forward, his gaze fixed on his father.

He spoke slowly, deliberately. “You’re calling me cold? Isn’t that exactly what you and Grandpa drilled into me my whole life?”

Tyrone added, “You want to talk about being family? About being blood? Then how have you treated us?”

Ralph was rendered speechless by his own son and sank weakly onto the couch.

The two of them remained in silence for a long moment–one sitting, one standing.

Ralph finally lowered his head. “I admit it. The way things have turned out… I’m partly to blame.”

He stood up, his once–domineering tone shifting to something more conciliatory.

Ralph said, “Today’s Christmas Eve. Come with me to bring your mother and sister home. From now on, no matter what your mother says. I won’t argue with her. And whatever you want to do, I won’t stand in your way. Would that be enough?”

Tyrone nodded. “I’ll go with you.”

But then he added, “Don’t expect me to take your side.”

In all his years, Ralph had never felt so humiliated in front of his own son.

One hour later, at the McCarthy Residence.

Tyrone followed his father inside and immediately spotted Aella.

When Aella saw Tyrone, she happily rushed over. “Tyrone!”

Tyrone pulled her aside and asked softly, “What are you doing here?”

Aella told him she had come over to hang out with Raine.

Tyrone wanted to take her and leave, but Aella snuck a glance at the tense atmosphere in the living room, curiosity getting the better of her.

She wriggled out of his grip and whispered, “You guys do your thing. I’ll stay out of the way, okay?”

Tyrone gave her a skeptical look.

After growing up together, he knew exactly what she was like.

Virginia continued, “After all these years of marriage, you’ve done nothing but tear me down

Ralph relented and said to Virginia, “From now on, you can make all the decisions at home, big or small. Is that enough?”

Virginia stood firm. “I don’t want it!”

With no other choice, Ralph turned to his daughter. “Raine, come home with Dad.”

The moment Raine saw her father, fear and resistance flickered in her eyes.

She hid behind her uncle, her eyes red, and said to Ralph, “You’re not my dad.”

Ralph stared at his daughter in disbelief. “Say that again?”

Raine burst into tears but still spoke her truth.

My whole life, every time I went to a friend’s house, I was so jealous of them for having such great dads. Dads who brought us snacks, told us jokes, cooked for us.”

Raine demanded, “Why? Why can other fathers do those things, but you think you’re too good for it?”

Raine went on.

“Every time you fought with Mom, you never cared who else was around. You’d whip my brother over nothing. You’d slap me over nothing. Even when we hid upstairs, we could still hear you screaming, throwing things, cursing.”

Raine said, “When my brother and I had nowhere to go, he’d take me to Aella’s house. Miriam would cook for us. Warren would sit and talk with me. They treated us like their own kids. Why can’t you?”

Raine sobbed uncontrollably. “I hate you! I don’t want you as my dad anymore!”
