Ralph knew all too well that currying favor with a future mother–in–law was a smart move–it might save Tyrone from ending up like him.
Virginia shot Ralph a hard glare. “You really think this whole house revolves around you, huh? You’re so capable.”
Ralph lifted his teacup and took a slow sip.
Virginia pointed toward the kitchen and ordered, “Today marks the first time your daughter- in–law officially steps through the door. As her future father–in–law, you’ll be cooking a few dishes yourself.”
Aella had only just become an adult, and her son had already gone and slept with her.
The Reids were definitely going to be mad.
Even if they’d already accepted the idea of Aella marrying into the Winters, her son still owed her parents a proper explanation.
So, going to the Reids first was exactly the right thing for him to do.
Ralph protested, “I’ve never set foot in a kitchen in my life. I don’t know the first thing about cooking–you’re trying to kill me here.”
Virginia jabbed a finger at him. “If you don’t want to be a proper father–in–law, I’ll find someone else to take the job.”
Ralph picked up the remote, turned off the TV, then silently got up and walked toward the kitchen.
Virginia told Justin, “Find two people to go in and help him. Don’t let Mr. Winter burn the kitchen down.”
Justin glanced at Ralph’s retreating back and couldn’t help sighing.
The man who used to be so high and mighty was now this pitiful.
His status at home wasn’t even as good as the family dog.
Yikes.
At 2 p.m., Tyrone stood with Aella at the Reids‘ front door.

The two of them exchanged a look, and Aella said to Tyrone, “I can talk to my parents myself. You really don’t have to go this far.”
Tyrone tightened his grip on her hand, his expression solemn and firm.
He said, “Aella, I’m a man. This is something I need to tell them myself.”
Aella was still young and straightforward, but he’d been handling business at his father’s side since he was 18.
Getting together with her this fast without first getting both sets of parents‘ blessing–of course, her parents would be angry.
Even if he couldn’t marry her and put a ring on her finger just yet, he had to make sure her parents felt safe trusting him with their daughter.
Aella tipped her head back to stare up at Tyrone.
She’d thought it was just her one–sided crush and pursuit, but he was meeting her feelings head–on, giving her the clearest, most solid answer and a sense of security that wrapped around her like a blanket.
When her parents saw them walk into the living room with their fingers intertwined, Warren and Miriam traded a look.

They’d been young once, too; it didn’t take long to figure out exactly what had happened between these two.
Tyrone let go of Aella’s hand. “You’ve been on a plane for hours. You must be exhausted. Go up and rest for a bit.”
Seeing the serious look on her parents‘ faces, Aella hesitated, not quite at ease.
Tyrone leaned in and murmured, “Hey, if you stay, it’ll be harder for me to talk.”
He’d promised her parents before that he’d keep his distance and behave himself.
But the second her exams ended, he’d lost control and taken that step with her anyway.
Of course, her parents were furious.
That anger was his to shoulder alone.
“Come to the study with us.”

There were things Warren didn’t want to say in front of his daughter, so he turned and headed for the study first.
Miriam told Aella, “You go upstairs.”
Aella could tell this time her parents were truly angry.
She tried to explain, “Mom, it was my idea. Please don’t be mad at Tyrone.”
Seeing how serious Miriam looked, Tyrone took Aella by the hand and walked her to the stairs. “Trust me and leave it to me. I’ll handle it.”
Aella wasn’t completely convinced, but she still went upstairs, doing as she was told.
A few minutes later, in the study-
Warren sat at the tea table, face dark, while Miriam stood beside him.
Tyrone suddenly stood up and said, “I’m sorry.”
Miriam hadn’t expected that and hurried forward to grab his arm. “What are you doing, kid? We can talk this out. Why are you apologizing?”
Tyrone continued standing with a grim expression, refusing to sit down.
They’d treated Aella like their little princess from the day she was born.
They’d poured 18 years of love and effort into her, only for him to walk off with her.
Giving a sincere apology was the least he owed them.
