For once, Virginia didn’t stop him. “Fine. Tomorrow, I’m going with you.”

Tyrone didn’t argue with his parents‘ decision. No matter what, Zera had been protected by the Hills back then. After what she’d done today, though, the Hills couldn’t pretend they had nothing to do with it.
He glanced at the host, signaling for the engagement program to continue.
When the host’s voice came back over the speakers, the last of the chatter slowly died down.
After the whole spectacle, Aella remained composed. She never lost her footing or showed a crack. This only made the Winters and the McCarthys respect her more.
Tyrone took both her hands and looked her straight in the eyes. “I know you have questions. When we get back tonight, I’ll explain everything. I won’t hide a thing.”
Aella held his gaze. Her voice was steady. “Okay.”
She trusted him. But she was still going to ask what needed to be asked.
Zera had ruined the morning, but the engagement ended without falling apart.
Afterward, when they were moving to the hotel, Noel hurried back. He leaned close to Tyrone’s ear.
“Mr. Winter, Zera was in a car accident. She’s already at the hospital. Her lower body is badly injured. There’s a good chance she won’t keep both legs.”
He paused, then added, “Natasha’s at the hospital, and the Hills are doing everything they can. With Daniel in surgery, there could still be a turnaround.”
Tyrone gave a small, unreadable nod. Noel slipped away again.
Aella leaned in, suspicious. “What secret are you two whispering about that I’m not allowed to hear?”
“It’s not a secret,” Tyrone said. “Just work.”
“Oh.” Aella didn’t press the issue.
Once the guests had cleared out of the church, Tyrone was ready to take Aella to the hotel.
He bent down and set a pair of slippers by her feet. He helped her change into them himself.

It had only been half a day, but Aella was indeed tired. Still, she shook her head. “It’s our engagement party.” How could she let him give all the toasts alone? “Even if I’m exhausted, I’m going with you.”
Tyrone brushed a knuckle lightly against the tip of her nose. “You’ve done enough, Mrs. Winter.”
Aella smiled brightly despite herself, but she refused to give him the title. “We haven’t signed anything yet. That doesn’t count.”

Tyrone’s smile was pure indulgence. In his mind, ever since he and Aella had truly become a couple, she had already been his only
wife.
Across the street, inside a sedan, Anna gripped the steering wheel until her fingers turned white. Her eyes were swollen as if she’d been crying for hours. She watched Tyrone and Aella with a raw, vicious look in her eyes.
She’d thought that no matter how Zera’s stunt ended today, the Hills would protect her. Instead, they left early.
Anna had hidden in a corner, forced to watch Zera be stripped on the red carpet and left with only a filthy cleaner’s uniform to cover herself.
Then, Tyrone called the police again. Zera panicked, bolted out of the church, and ran straight into the road and into a crash.
Anna’s name was already ruined. She hadn’t dared show her face for fear that it would draw more scorn onto her daughter.
But she recognized Tyrone’s assistant. He had gone over to check Zera’s injuries, said something to the driver, and then disappeared. He never came back.
It had to be Tyrone. He was too calculating. He must have ordered someone to hit Zera to punish her.
Anna’s foot was already moving toward the gas pedal, and the car was aimed at Tyrone and Aella when her phone rang.
The call snapped her back. The surgery was over. Nothing else mattered. She drove straight to the hospital.
