After Tyrone’s parents left, Justin knocked on the door and gave Aella a set of casual clothes. She hurried to shower and change out of her gown.
Back at home, Virginia had the staff pack up dinner and send it to the hospital. Aella insisted that Noel, Justin, and the bodyguards eat with her.
Noel honestly hadn’t expected this. The future Mrs. Winter wasn’t just beautiful. She didn’t have any of that untouchable, high- and–mighty air. She was warm, straightforward, and genuine.
After dinner, though, everyone returned to waiting outside.
Aella, now wearing a white dress, sat cross–legged beside Tyrone’s bed and stared at his handsome face. She reached out and poked his cheek.
“Funny,” she murmured. “We hadn’t even gotten engaged, and we were already arguing about where we’d live. And now, we’re living at the hospital.”
She sighed again. At least it was only a mild concussion. If his brain had actually been damaged, her whole life would have turned into a tragedy.
The engagement had been exhausting, and Anna’s sudden outburst had nearly scared her to death. Without realizing it, Aella slumped against Tyrone and fell asleep.
Late that night, she woke up dazed by a sharp pain in her arm. Someone was gripping her hard.
She blinked awake and saw Tyrone thrashing in a nightmare, his forehead drenched and his brows knotted tight. His lips moved as he called her name repeatedly.
Aella grabbed a tissue and wiped his tears away. “It’s just a dream. Why are you crying?”
She tried to shake him awake, but he was trapped deep inside the nightmare and unresponsive.
Her anxiety spiked. Aella slipped off the bed, ready to call a doctor. “Aella, I was wrong. I’m sorry. I betrayed you.” The words were
clear.
Aella froze and slowly turned around. Tyrone was still caught in the nightmare, his face twisted with pain.
A cold, ugly thought slid in.
Had he really slept with Zera? Was this guilt? Had it been months of restless nights because he’d lied to Aella or because he felt he’d wronged Zera, too?
The more she thought about it, the more it seemed to fit.
She stood there, wrestling with herself. Then she walked back and sat beside the bed again. Bracing her hands near him, she leaned in close and listened. For more than a minute, she didn’t move.
Her expression darkened by degrees. In the nightmare, Tyrone’s voice was a mix of apology, fear, pleading, and regret. He sobbed. He begged. He clung.

Aella’s certainty cracked.
Heat rushed up her spine and into her head. She lifted her hand and slapped him hard.
The sound echoed through the quiet room.
There was an immediate knock. Outside, Justin asked carefully, “Mrs. Winter, is Mr. Winter all right?”
Aella drew a sharp breath and forced her voice to remain steady. “I killed a mosquito.”
Outside, Justin went quiet.

Still furious, she slapped Tyrone again, harder this time. It cut the nightmare off like a switch. His cheek bloomed with a clear handprint, and his breathing evened out, becoming calm and steady.
Aella almost laughed from sheer anger. She pinched his ear and hissed, “Tyrone, don’t play dead. Get up and tell me. Did you sleep with Zera or not?”
No matter what she did, he didn’t wake up. In the end, she had to stop.
He was injured. Fine. She’d let it go for now. But when he woke up, they were going to have a real conversation.
If he’d done anything with Zera, she’d call off the engagement on the spot and cut him off for good. She would never speak to him again.
She stayed angry for hours until she fell asleep again, not knowing when that happened.
