It was a little after 7:00 p.m. when Aella left home. She didn’t go straight back to her apartment. Instead, she headed to Bluehaven.
Tyrone was passed out on the rug in front of the couch, completely wasted.
The violin he’d given Aella for her 18th birthday lay on the coffee table.
She had returned every gift he’d ever given her.
She was cutting him off for good.
Tyrone had expected things to end that way, but it still hurt so much that he could barely breathe.
When the doorbell rang, he figured it was Brad. He staggered to his feet and went to open the door.
Seeing Aella there, he shook his head hard, thinking he was hallucinating.
Aella smelled the alcohol on him.
She blurted, “You have a bad stomach. How could you drink this much?”
They stared at each other.
Aella instantly regretted speaking without thinking.
Suddenly, Tyrone lost control and pulled her tightly into his arms. “Aella!”
“I’m not here to get back together!” she snapped.
Unable to break free, she twisted hard at his waist.
Tyrone hissed in pain and loosened his grip, sobering up a bit.
Standing right in front of him, Aella took off the diamond engagement ring. Then, under his stunned gaze, she tossed it into the living room.
The large diamond hit the floor with a sharp clink.
Tyrone’s eyes turned red at the edges.
Aella stayed by the door, not stepping inside.
She said clearly, “Tyrone, I’m returning the ring. The engagement will officially end in a year. From now on, we’re even. Don’t ever come looking for me again.”
Still burning with anger, she turned and walked into the elevator.
Just before the door closed, Tyrone rushed in. “Aella, I’m sorry.”
She shoved him back. “I don’t want your apology!”
He was the one who responded to her feelings.

He was the one who made promises.
And he was the one who backed out and hurt her.
She didn’t want apologies. She wanted a clear choice.
Tyrone grabbed her hands. “It’s late. Let me take you home. Your parents will worry,”
At the mention of her parents, Aella finally cracked.
She yanked her hands free and kicked him hard in the shin.
He winced, but he didn’t dodge.

As the elevator went down, Aella pointed at him and yelled, “My parents treated you like family all these years, and it meant nothing! Don’t ever bring them up again!”
When the elevator door opened, she stormed out.
Her parents had doted on him like their son since childhood.
He had promised them he’d protect her and take care of her.
But then, he pulled away and ignored her, distancing himself from her.
What a jerk.
Tyrone followed closely behind her.
They struggled and argued all the way to the road outside the complex. Tyrone stood in her way, refusing to let her leave alone.
He couldn’t drive since he’d been drinking.
He said, “If you won’t let me take you, I’ll call a driver.”
Aella shot him a vicious glare and walked toward the other side of the road.
She didn’t want his fake concern.
Tyrone sighed, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her back.
Her face was flushed with rage, her breathing heavy.
Through clenched teeth, she warned him, “Let go of me!”
Their eyes met.
Tyrone frowned, but he didn’t release her.
Trying to sound reasonable, he said, “Even if you’re angry, you still need to stay safe. Wait a minute. I’ll get a driver to take you
home.”
He freed one hand and started to make a call.

His cold, steady attitude stabbed Aella all over again. She finally snapped.
With red, tear–filled eyes, she didn’t say anything. She just started hitting and kicking him wildly.
Tyrone hissed when her nails left two bloody scratches on his neck.
He grabbed both her wrists and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly so she couldn’t lash out anymore.
In a low voice, he soothed her. “If you need to let it out, go ahead. When you’re done, rest for a bit.”
Aella cried harder and bit down fiercely on the back of his hand.
Tyrone didn’t move, letting her vent everything on him.
When she finally released him, two rows of bloody bite marks were left behind.

Ignoring the pain in her wrists, Aella struggled again. Tyrone wrapped an arm around her waist to stop her from stepping into the road.
She reached for his face in anger. “Tyrone, you bastard!”
He leaned back to avoid her nails. “Aella, I have a meeting tomorrow. Don’t scratch my face.”
The more he dodged, the angrier she got. “You slept with me, said you’d take responsibility, and now you won’t! Do you have any shame?”
Tyrone fell silent.
Catching him off guard, Aella shoved him hard.
He stumbled back several steps, straight into the road.
At that moment, a car sped toward him from behind.
Aella froze in terror, forgetting how to breathe.
The tires screeched as the driver slammed the brakes. She screamed.
