Aella walked Miriam to the door, then turned to Tyrone. “I’m going to bed. You should leave, too.”
Miriam couldn’t help scolding Aella. “Mind your tone when you talk to Tyrone.”
Even though Tyrone ending the engagement had hurt Aella badly, the two had grown up together. And he had once risked his life for the Reids.
Miriam just couldn’t be too harsh with him.
Aella understood how her parents felt. She only shot Tyrone a sharp look and didn’t say anything nastier.
Tyrone clenched the engagement ring in his palm and was about to leave when he noticed a drop of blood near his shoes.
His gaze tightened. He bent down, wiped it with his finger, and then slowly straightened.
Keeping his face calm, he said, “Miriam, let me say a few words to Aella before I go.”
Miriam nodded in relief and left the apartment first.
As soon as she was gone, Aella left the door wide open and stood by the entrance, rolling her eyes. “Say it quickly and get out.”
“I need the bathroom,” Tyrone said.
She paused, then pointed toward the guest bathroom in the living room. “Fine. Be quick.”
She’d expected him to argue or apologize.
It turned out that he just needed the bathroom.
She scolded herself for overthinking it.
Inside, Tyrone shut the door and carefully scanned every corner, even checking the trash can.
Finding nothing unusual, he came out and glanced toward Aella’s bedroom.
Feeling uneasy, Aella stepped in front of him. “Can you leave now?”
When he didn’t move, she reached out to shove him.
Tyrone used the chance to grab her wrist. “I heard a sound from your bedroom just now.”
She denied it right away. “I live alone. What noise could there be? You’re imagining things.”
He released her and started walking toward the bedroom.
Panicking, Aella blocked him. “Tyrone, we’re not engaged anymore. Even if I brought another guy home, it’s none of your business!”
Their eyes met.
Tyrone’s deep stare locked onto hers.

They stood like that for over ten seconds.
In the end, Tyrone gave in. “Get some sleep.”
Without hesitation, he turned and left the apartment.
Aella finally breathed out in relief.
She went into the bedroom and knocked on the bathroom door. “Mr. Vic, you can come out now.”
Victor stepped out.
Aella said, “Tyrone is gone. I’ll set up the couch for you.”
He glanced at her sideways. “You’re underestimating your fiancé.”
“What do you mean?”
Victor walked out of the room and pointed toward the front door. “Go check.”
Half doubtful, Aella went to the door and checked the video doorbell. Tyrone was still outside, smoking.
Her heart thumped. She hurried back into the living room. “Mr. Vic, how did you know he didn’t leave?”
What’s that bastard Tyrone even trying to do?
Victor casually measured the length of the couch with his eyes.
He said casually, “The men in his family are natural schemers. If Tyrone didn’t have real ability, how could he run things on his own and take over the Winter Group so young?
“He definitely noticed something.”
Aella gave a cold laugh.
Victor wasn’t wrong. She’d been fooled by Tyrone.
All that talk about loving her, marrying her, and protecting her was nothing but lies.
Still, she’d checked carefully. There was no way Tyrone had actually discovered anything.
He must’ve just had something left unsaid tonight.
Aella laid out a blanket and a pillow on the couch for Victor.
“Mr. Vic, how long are you planning to stay here?
“Will your enemies come after you?
“Am I in danger?
“Should I help you call the police? A station would be way safer than my place.”
