As she remembered that rainy day, her chest tightened with emotion.

She said, “A few years back, during the rainy season, I got cornered by some thugs in a back alley. You happened to ride by on your bike and stepped in to help me out. That was the first time I saw you, though you had no idea who I was.

“That was the one time I owed you for saving me. Up until the day you had that accident… But whatever, the past is the past.

“Dylan, starting today, I don’t owe you anything anymore. I’ve done all I could, and helped you as much as I could. That’s it.”

Beatrice and Eliana both let out a sigh of relief at the same time. Both of them were on edge, afraid that Stella would let that secret slip.

Serena gave Dylan one last look and said, “If you stay here, you’ve got maybe half a year left. Go abroad for treatment, and you might squeeze out another two years. If you can hang on, then make the most of it. Dying would be way too easy for you after everything you’ve done. No, you need to stay alive and face what’s coming to you.”

With that, Serena turned and walked away. She took her son from Chris’s arms, and his cheerful little face made her smile despite herself.

“Sweetie, let’s go home and see Bennett,” she said.

Serena smiled at him, but inside, her heart twisted with sorrow.

Chris waved his hand, and everyone cleared out. Penny and Rosalie were also taken away by the police.

Dylan watched Serena and Liam walk away, feeling like the two most important people in his life had just slipped through his fingers. The pain hit so fast, it was gone before he could even process it.
