Chapter 240
Beatrice watched her daughter, Stella, sitting not far away. She was determined to have Stella marry into the Grant family and secure her own standing.
She couldn’t let anyone know who she really was just yet, so she’ll have to speed up her plans.
“Dylan, just want to find a daughter–in–law I genuinely like. I’m not trying to interfere in your life, Beatrice said calmly.
Dylan hung up the phone with a cold expression, then turned to Serena. “Stella, don’t worry, I’ll handle everything online
soon
Still, he knew Beatrice had already achieved her goal, and the Grant family was bound to know about it by now.
Given Chloe’s personality, she was sure to cause trouble for Serena.
Serena stayed silent, waiting for the doctor to come and start her IV.
Wherever there are people, there’s always trouble,‘ Serena thought. After everything I’ve been through, I’m already covered in scars–what could a few rumors possibly do to me now?‘
Spencer’s phone rang. When he saw it was his mother calling, his eyes burned with barely contained rage,
He hung up and started clearing the lunch boxes off the table.
Chris saw how tired Serena was and shot Dylan a glare that clearly meant, “Keep your mouth shut.”
Once Serena lay down, the nurse came in right away to start her IV.
She slept for four hours and didn’t wake up until the afternoon.
The IV was already finished, and Lyra was sitting by her side. Serena looked at Lyra and said, “Lyra, can you handle the discharge paperwork for me?”
Lyra’s face lit up when she saw Serena was awake. “Okay, Serena”
‘Serena’s a top–notch doctor–she’ll be way more comfortable at home, Lyra thought.
Lyra went to take care of the discharge paperwork.
Serena sat up slowly, feeling way better after that nap
“Stella, your arm still isn’t healed. You should stay in the hospital for another day,” Dylan said, his voice gentle but firm.
Stella glanced sideways at him. He was lying on the bed, still looking effortlessly handsome as always.
Spencer had already left.
“No.” Serena cut him off, her tone icy.
Dylan got up, barefoot, and walked over to her. Seeing how pale she looked, a pang of hurt stabbed through him. “You’re not well. Why do you have to be so stubborn?”
His tall frame cast a shadow over her, and she shifted away, unwilling to let his presence close in on her.

Serena spoke to Dylan with dear–headed restraint, keeping her emotions in check
She looked at him and added, “Dylan, does the truth even matter at this point?”
It felt like everything inside Dylan thattered
Dylan’s mind went completely blank. Staring into her indifferent eyes, it felt like someone was twisting a knife in his chest.
Even after Serena left, Dylan just stood there, her words echoing over and over in his mind.
Of course it matters How could it ever not matter? Dylan thought, his heart aching. Stella, you’ll never know how much it breaks me inside, now that I know it was you‘
Miles had been waiting at the door for a long time. Seeing Dylan standing there for so long, he couldn’t help but worry about him.
He finally spoke up. Mr. Ashford, I’ve already taken care of the discharge paperwork. Should we head back now?”
The doctors said Dylan’s health was getting worse.
Miles had already found a new doctor for him, and now they were just waiting for the doctor to arrive and start treatment.
There was no way Stella would ever treat Dylan again
Miles couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. Just like Stella said, Dylan had been living in the web of lies his mother spun for
him.
Dylan only snapped out of it when he heard Miles’s voice.
He looked at Miles and finally managed to move his numb legs.
He said in a low voice, “Miles, go check if Hazel is back yet.”
