They were getting on in years and wanted to turn in early. They didn’t plan to stay up for Christmas, so they told Dylan to head home and get some rest.
He still found himself going back to the house he used to share with Serena.
He sat there, feeling cold and alone on the bed where Serena used to sleep, just staring at her photo in a daze.
This year, being here all alone, the loneliness hit him even harder.

Suddenly, Dylan realized that all those years he wasn’t around for Christmas, Stella had been left here by herself. He thought, ‘So this is what loneliness feels like.
und
‘At least this year, she has her child and her grandfather with her She must be happy now!‘

Just as Dylan was lost in thought, his phone buzzed with a screenshot from Miles.
He glanced down and saw a photo of Stella chatting with a sweet–looking girl, the two of them laughing over eating and drinks.
Stella was grinning ear to ear, and behind her, the night was deep, but lights lit up.
One shot caught her in the midst of lights, her smile shining with a shimmering brilliance.
Her smile was so radiant that it made the brilliant lights fade into the background.
A gentle smile tugged at Dylan’s lips. He thought, ‘She is not alone this Christmas. Her happiness was obvious.
I used to think she had no friends, no one to hang out with.
But now, turns out. She’d given up her friends and family just to stay by my side. She always meant what she said, loving me with her whole heart, even risking everything for me.
And all I’d ever given her was pain.
‘Stella, I promise, I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.
His heart clenched hard, and he quickly texted Miles: [Where’d you get these photos?]
Miles: [Merry Christmas, Mr. Ashford! I pulled them from Chris social media. Seems like Ms. Hale is spending Christmas with them.]
Dylan understood.
Dylan: [Miles, come back on the second day of Christmas to hel prepare gifts for the visits.]
Every year, Stella took care of everything All he had to do was being along the gifts she’d carefully chosen She’d handled it perfectly for three years straight. Dylan thought, ‘And what had ever contributed?
It only stings when people see the difference!
Miles: [Got it, Mr. Ashford.]
Dylan put the phone down, and when Eliana crossed his mind, icy smile appeared on his lips.

There’s no way she’s having a good Christmas.”
Eliana pulled out a second phone and sent a file over to Mariana

Mariana was truly beautiful. On Christmas Eve, she wore a pale ink dress, her hair swept up in an elegant bun, making her look both graceful and regal.

“Grandma, have some fruit. You haven’t eaten anything tonight. Are you thinking about Dad?” Cassie asked.
Mariana’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as she looked at her granddaughter, an affectionate smile on her lips. “Cassie, I miss your daddy. It’s been so many years since he last came to see me.”

Cassie felt a pang of sadness. She wanted to see her dad, too, but how she understood that the man she used to call “Dad” wasn’t really her father. Her real father was someone else entirely

Cassie gently offered her grandma a slice of orange.
Mariana accepted the orange, her heart melting as she looked at Cassie.

Cassie was Mariana’s precious little girl. Mariana knew there had to be a reason her son vanished, and Eliana was the only one who knew where he’d gone.

Mariana had never liked Eliana. Her son had a hot temper, but he’d never leave her, no matter what.
Even if he beat Eliana within an inch of her life, he still wouldn’t walk away from her.
He was once willing to risk everything, even his life, for Eliana.
But he’d picked up his father’s worst habit: whenever he drank, he’d start hitting people.
It was exactly because she knew about his violent outbursts when he drank that Mariana feared her son might already be gone for good.
Eliana was the only one who knew her son’s whereabouts. For now, Mariana had no choice but to keep Eliana on a tight leash, determined to get to the bottom of her son’s death.

Mariana was so deep in thought she almost missed her phone buzzing, only noticing it when it finally caught her attention.
It was a file. Curious, she tapped it open, and as soon as she saw what was inside, she was so shocked she dropped her phone right onto the floor.
