Spencer had also heard about the land deal. He gave a slight nod. “Need my help?”
Dylan nodded. “Yeah.”
He had come to Spencer precisely because he knew he could count on him.

They had grown up together, and Spencer was one of the few people in the world he could truly rely on.
Stella certainly wouldn’t help, not with the way things were between them.
Besides, he couldn’t bring himself to face her.
“I need you to cover my loan payments for three months. I’ll figure something out by then. You’ve heard about the land–the worst–case scenario is the government seizes it under eminent domain. The compensation will be a drop in the bucket.”
That was the worst–case scenario.
Dylan shifted uncomfortably. The medication Stella had given him was gone, and the pain in his stomach had been flaring up again.
Spencer agreed without a second thought. They had been friends for years, and he wouldn’t hesitate to help when Dylan was in a tight spot.
A grateful smile touched Dylan’s lips. “Thanks, Spencer.”
“I can only cover you for three months, Dylan,” Spencer clarified. “After that, I’m going into a partnership with the Ellington family, and it’s going to tie up a lot of my capital.”
Dylan’s expression darkened.
Spencer went on, “Serena set it up, and Mr. Ellington is on board.”
An inexplicable knot formed in Dylan’s stomach. He had to admit, Stella’s network was impressive.
“She’s always been well–connected in the business world,” he said, a bitter note in his voice that he himself didn’t recognize.
Spencer looked at him intently. “Dylan, are you sure you won’t regret loving a woman this way? Are you certain Eliana left all those years ago for the reasons you believe? As your friend, I know you. You should really look into what actually happened back then.”
Dylan gave a wry smile. “I made my choice. I don’t regret it.”
Knowing how stubborn he was, Spencer dropped the subject.
Dylan left after a short while, offering no further explanation. Spencer would never understand what it felt like when Eliana had pulled him back from the brink all those years ago.

Just as Dylan had predicted, the government seized the land. The compensation they offered was a pittance, barely making a dent in his financial crisis.
When the official announcement was made, Jasper Lambert breathed a sigh of relief.
If it hadn’t been for Dylan, the Lambert family would have been ruined.
But his relief was quickly replaced by a thirst for revenge. He was already plotting against Stella, the woman who had destroyed everything.
Meanwhile, Stella was preoccupied with finding her son, anxiously waiting for news from Lyra and Caleb.
She knew about Dylan’s troubles but had no intention of getting involved.
With Spencer helping him, the Ashfords would be fine for now.
Finding her child was the only thing that mattered.
The day of the Kingsbridge Fashion Design Competition arrived quickly.
Despite his packed schedule, Dylan made time to pick up Eliana and take her to the venue.
The competition would have three rounds with a two–hour break in between, and it was all being filmed live.
Eliana’s eyes flickered at the mention of a live broadcast.
“Eliana, you won first place last time, and you can do it again,” Dylan said, his voice a stark contrast to his usual ruthless CEO persona, now filled with a gentle warmth reserved only for her.
“This will be great for building your brand’s reputation.”
Eliana smiled confidently. “I’ll do my best, Dylan.”
Inwardly, however, she was far from certain. She had spent the last few years abroad focusing on her health and raising their child, with little time to dedicate to design.
Still, she reminded herself that just participating was a victory. Even if she didn’t win, Dylan wouldn’t blame her.
Serena was up early as well. She had just finished getting ready when her phone rang.
It was Joseph Hayes, whom she hadn’t spoken to in a while.
She answered with a smile. “Joseph, hi.”
“Kiddo, get over to Palace Garden Square,” his voice boomed through the phone, full of energy.
Serena laughed. “You sound like you’ve got good news, Joseph. What’s going on?”
