Chloe gasped for air, her eyes slowly traveling upward toward the voice.
Seeing it was Jade, a rare sense of panic washed over her. She scrambled backward on the ground, trying to force a smile, but the expression she made was more of a painful grimace.
"J-Jade... Jade, honey."
Jade stepped toward her slowly, her shoes crunching on the dry twigs with a rhythmic snap, snap that made Chloe's skin crawl. Chloe tried to get up and run, but Jade blocked her path.
"Weren't you just calling for me? Why are you running now?"
Chloe looked like she was about to cry. Jade looked so fragile usually, but right now, she radiated a terrifying pressure.
Her voice shook violently as she spoke.
"J-Jade... your mother's... your mother's ashes... I didn't give them away! It was your father and his wife. You should be looking for them!"
Jade leaned down slowly, staring into her eyes.
"You didn't give them away, but you pumped the Merchants for information and told Amara what my mother's urn looked like so she could destroy it. You think you can just walk away from that?"
Chloe's face drained of color, her eyes wide. It was just as she feared—something had gone wrong on Amara's side.
She didn't dare admit it, hanging her head and trying to deny it.
"I... I didn't."
The corner of Jade's mouth curled into a smirk as she said calmly, "But Amara told me that you were the one who suggested the collaboration to get that villa and ten million for the Merchants."
"She's lying!"
Chloe was instantly enraged, her face turning bright red.
"She was the one who threatened me! I was forced to work with her! How can she say I went to her? Does that bitch have no shame?"
So it was true. The urn incident was an inside job between Chloe and Amara, which ultimately led to her mother's ashes being scattered to the wind.
Jade's eyes were already filled with a bone-chilling coldness, yet her tone remained slow and steady.
"She also told me that your whole 'wealthy girl from overseas' persona is a total sham. She said you're just a gold digger from some small town. You went after Robert because he's a spoiled, naive idiot who's easy to play, and you were planning to bleed him dry."
Chloe's expression froze instantly, as if someone had grabbed her by the throat. She couldn't make a sound.
It had to be.
Only Amara knew those things.
If Amara hadn't told her, Jade couldn't possibly know.
That b*tch Amara couldn't handle the pressure, so she was burning all the bridges.
"What do you want me to do?"
Jade got straight to the point. "Find a way to get Amara out. Talk to her about the deal you made regarding the urn."
Chloe's mind raced. "You want to catch her on tape?"
"You don't need to worry about what I'm doing," Jade's tone was firm.
"If you want to keep everything you've worked for, do exactly as I say. Otherwise, I'll tell the Merchants exactly who you really are."
Chloe bit her lip, her voice filled with resentment.
"Why does everyone have to push me around?"
"Is that a no?"
Jade took a step back. "Fine, I won't force you. I wonder how much money you've scammed from the Merchants so far? It must be a lot. If they sue you for fraud, you could be looking at ten years in prison, right?"
"No!"
The word "prison" terrified Chloe instantly. She looked at Jade with pleading eyes.
"I'll do it! I'll cooperate! Jade, please just don't let them report me. I don't want to go to jail."
