From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 218

Tugging at his brow, he stepped out of the car and headed toward the station.

Whatever. Handle Amara first. Everything else could wait until he got home.

Late that night.

Hudson got home with a massive headache. Chloe wouldn't budge at the station, insisting on pressing charges.

Seeing the light still on in Jade's room, he went straight upstairs and pushed the door open. Jade was at her desk, writing something. He marched over.

"Jade, was this your doing? Setting Chloe up?"

Jade closed her book and looked up. "So what? She's allowed to plot against me and trash my mom's ashes, but I'm not allowed to show everyone what a snake she is?"

Hudson leaned in closer. "Jade, there might be a misunderstanding here. Amara... she has no reason to do something that cruel."

"You really want to play that card?" Jade stood up, meeting his eyes with a cold stare.

"If I remember correctly, you were standing right there outside that door. You heard her admit it. And you're still calling it a 'misunderstanding'? Besides, she literally made that girl bleed. That's a fact. She's in custody because she earned it. Why are you even talking to me about this?"

Hudson was speechless. He rubbed his temples hard, trying to find the words, his chest feeling tight.

After a long, agonizing silence, he spoke, sounding completely drained.

"Jade, I'm not just defending her for the hell of it. You know Ronald saved my life. Because of that, I can't just leave her to rot. Plus, she's got Cortney to think about. Cortney's just a kid. What happens to her if her mom goes to jail?"

Jade gave him a look of pure confusion.

"And why exactly is that my problem?"

Hudson couldn't believe his ears. After everything he'd said, she was still completely unmoved.

"Jade, we're married. Can't you put yourself in my shoes for once? When did you become so heartless?"

"In your shoes?" Jade let out a bitter laugh.

"Where were my shoes when you used my mother's ashes to threaten me? Where were they when you let Amara walk all over me? Did you ever put yourself in my shoes?"

By the end, she was shouting, her chest heaving as she took deep, shaky breaths to calm herself down.

"Don't bring that crap to me. If you're so worried about Amara, go to jail for her. Nobody's stopping you."

Hudson nearly choked on his breath, his brow deepening.

"Jade, I never thought I'd hear something so cold come out of your mouth. You're really disappointing me."
