Chloe, being from a small town, had always been insecure; Amara's elitist tone hit her right where it hurt.
She tightened her grip on Amara's hair, wanting to pour every ounce of her resentment into this fight.
"I might be crazy, but I'm not going to be your d*mn scapegoat!"
Amara hissed through her teeth, twisted her body, and managed to grab a handful of Chloe's hair in return. Chloe gasped, losing her grip, and Amara seized the moment to slam Chloe's head into the table.
Thud—
Glasses on the table shattered as they hit the floor.
Crash—
The room was a total disaster.
Amara wasn't done. She put all her weight into a second slam. Chloe's vision blurred, and blood began to seep from her forehead, her voice turning into a weak whimper.
"Amara... let me go... you're going to kill me!"
Amara let out a chilling laugh, her expression twisted and bloodthirsty.
"It's not like I haven't killed someone before. What's one more life on my hands?"
Chloe's pupils shrunk in sheer terror.
Just then, the door was kicked open with a thunderous bang.
A voice, cold enough to freeze the room and heavy with authority, rang out from the doorway.
"Had enough yet?"
The familiar voice made Amara whip her head around, her eyes meeting Hudson's livid, stone-cold face.
Panic hit her. Her fingers shook as she immediately let go of Chloe's hair, her mouth already spinning lies.
"Hudson! It was her... she started it! I was just defending myself... she was going to choke me..."
"She tried to kill me!" Chloe sobbed on the floor, hair matted with blood, her state far more convincing than Amara's.
"Why on earth would I try to kill you?" Amara snapped, refusing to back down.
"You lunged at me first!"
Chloe tried to speak, but she choked on the air and fell into a violent coughing fit.
"Cough... cough..."
She clutched her chest, saw the blood streaming down her face, and let out a piercing scream.
"Aah! My face! She ruined my face!"
Nobody knew how much money she'd sunk into that face.
Why was Robert with her? Because she was a ten.
Without this face, how was she supposed to keep the money flowing?
On the floor, Amara finally found her voice.
She crawled over and grabbed Hudson's leg.
"Hudson, help me! Please help me! I can't go to prison... I really can't go to prison!"
Hudson looked down at Amara, then at Jade standing by the door, and a sense of pure absurdity washed over him.
The two people he thought could just get along had ended up in a bloodbath.
Where did it all go so wrong?
The silence didn't last long before several officers burst into the room.
Chloe immediately scrambled over to them, pointing at the gash on her forehead before gesturing wildly at Amara.
"Officers! She tried to kill me! Get her away from me!"
The police took a quick assessment of the situation and escorted both Amara and Chloe to the precinct to give their statements.
Hudson didn't want to get involved, but seeing Amara's pathetic, pleading eyes, he ended up following them to the station anyway.
He wanted Jade to come with him, but when he turned around, she was already gone.
Sitting in his Maybach, he felt like something was off.
But before he could process it, they pulled up to the precinct.
