From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 225

Aside from the two of them, nobody knew about this arrangement—not even Amara Hoyt.

Victor unzipped the briefcase. "I have it."

He pulled out a folder and added, "Our theories about Silas are just guesses for now, but we can't let him grow any stronger. If we do, we're finished."

Lyndon took the folder. "Don't panic. Let's see how the wind blows. We can let Silas and Hudson tear each other apart like dogs, then we'll step in and clean up the mess."

In the corner, Jade was crouched low, her body curled into a ball. She didn't dare move a muscle. She'd heard everything and had recorded the entire conversation on her phone.

Her arm was aching from holding the phone up, but the haul was worth it. She'd gathered incredible intel.

What they were saying was slightly different from what Silas had told her.

But regardless of the truth, her goal was the same: use Silas and Julian to break free from Hudson Walter.

She'd risked her life for this, doing things she'd never dreamed of, all to escape the shackles of her marriage.

Compared to the misery Hudson had put her through, this was nothing.

Jade's eyes hardened with resolve. She rubbed her sore wrist, her gaze fixed on the two folders they were exchanging.

According to them, these files were everything to Silas.

If she could get her hands on that data to negotiate with him, she might be able to get her divorce immediately.

Even if she couldn't get it right away, it would be a massive bargaining chip.

She could demand that Silas increase the pressure on the Walter Group. He wouldn't say no.

Jade stared at the files, her heart hammering against her ribs.

In a moment of sheer desperation, she made a reckless decision.

Thud—

She picked up two small stones and tossed them outside the warehouse.

Lyndon and Victor instantly stopped talking. They snapped the folders shut and looked toward the entrance, their bodies tensing.

Thud—

Thud-thud—

Jade tossed a few more stones.

"Someone might be watching us," Lyndon said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous register. He gave Victor's arm a sharp shove.

"Leave the files here. Come with me to check the perimeter."

If there really was someone outside, carrying the files out was a guarantee they'd be snatched.

Hiding them inside was safer.

The sound of boots echoed as Victor and Lyndon reappeared in the warehouse.

The shout had come from Lyndon. Victor hadn't seen anything and gave him a puzzled look.

"You saw someone?"

Jade's heart was in her throat. She pulled her limbs in tighter.

Lyndon scanned the room. "No, but I feel it. Someone's in here."

"Who would come to a hellhole like this?" Victor looked around too. Everything looked exactly as it had when they left. Nothing seemed out of place.

Lyndon walked to the wall and started a slow, methodical sweep.

"If nobody's here, where did that noise come from?"

Victor knelt by the tires and pulled the files out. He stood up abruptly and walked to Lyndon's side.

"Someone touched these."

Victor lived and breathed details. Lyndon never doubted him on that front. His face went pale as he snapped.

"We're being watched. Did you notice anything unusual when you landed yesterday?"

Victor told the truth. "I was shadowed by some professional security, but I couldn't tell who they belonged to."
