He almost said, “Want to join me,” but he taught himself. They’d signed the mariage certificate, core but this prop new. He didn’t want to push too hard and actually make her mad. So he just presset a quick to
himself off the couch toward the bathroom.
Riley listened to the water running behind the door and rubbed her warm face. She grabbed her phone and flopped couch, trying to distract herself.
Right then, a red badge appeared on the WhatsApp icon.
She tapped it open and found a new friend request.
The profile picture was an aggressive cyberpunk illustration. The verification message stared her right in
“I’m Audrey Brooks. Are you brave enough to accept my friend request?”
It felt like a challenge thrown in her face.
Riley stared at the message for two seconds before she burst out laughing. She tapped accept.
But nothing came through right away.
She was about to put her phone down when the screen flickered. Audrey had sent her a link.
It was a co–op room for the hardest single–player competitive game trending in Nexopolis right now.
“We’re playing a match. This is Sebastian’s favorite game. If you/win, I’ll accept you as his girlfriend. Fair and square. But if you lose…”
Riley raised an eyebrow. Her fingers flew across the screen. “Sorry, but I don’t turn feelings into some childish contest. Sebastian isn’t a trophy, and I don’t owe anyone proof that I belong with him.”
Audrey clearly got stuck on that one. It took her a long moment before another message popped up, dripping with challenge “What, you’re scared you’ll lose and look bad? Or do you not even know what Sebastian’s into?”
Riley looked at the words and let out a tired sigh. “Fine. But let’s get one thing straight. If you lose, don’t go running home crying to your cousin again.”
“You-! Cry? Then I’m a coward.”
The water stopped in the bathroom, Soon after, the glass door slid open, and a cloud of steam rolled out.
Sebastian stepped into the room, water still dripping down his bare chest and shoulders. Under the warm orange lights, every line of his body looked tight and powerful.

-you haven’t showered yet?” Sebastian arched a brow, strolling over to sink into the couch beside her. He let his chin settle on nee shoulder a gesture so easy and proprietary, it seemed he’d always belonged there.
Riley was busy pulling off a slick midair reversal kill in the game. She didn’t even look

The second she said it, the screen exploded with a flashy finishing effect Big red intters spelled out “Victory” and they looked damn good.
Then Audrey’s voice blasted through the phone speaker. It was sharp and shrill with pure shock. Even with the speakerphone off, it rang loud and clear through the quiet room.
“Riley! Are you cheating? How could you predict my move? How is it you again!”
Audrey was about to lose her mind. Ten straight losses, and every single one was a brutal defeat in the one game she thought she owned.
Riley finally noticed Sebastian beside her. She turned her head a little, and her hair brushed against the tip of his nose. She spoke into the phone with a sly little smile, “So, Ms. Brooks, are you convinced yet?”
“No! I’ll die before I admit that!” Audrey’s bitter voice crackled through the line, followed by the dull trud of her slamming a desk. “That last round I slipped! And the lag was insane! One more game. I’ll catch you slipping this time. I know it!”
Sebastian’s amused expression went dark the moment he heard Audrey’s voice.
“Audrey, it’s late. Why are you dragging Riley into game after game?” His voice came out cold.
Audrey on the other end clearly jumped at the sudden male voice. But the gambling instinct of someone too deep in a losing streak had already stomped all over her fear of Sebastian.
She sucked in a breath and shouted through the phone, “Sebastian, don’t you pull that high–and–mighty act with me! Go to bed by yourself! Riley’s mine tonight! I am not stopping until I beat her at least once, or I swear I won’t be able to close my eyes!”
The cozy bubble Sebastian had built all night shattered–blown apart by a little firecracker from a dead–end crush.
He turned to look at Riley, and his eyes held a sadness he couldn’t quite put into words.
Riley looked back at him, half amused, half guilty.
She’d underestimated Audrey’s competitive streak. She’d figured a couple of rounds would be enough to make her back off. She hadn’t counted on Audrey being the type who only burned hotter the more she lost.
