Sebastian stared at her for a long moment, then Tally said, “Fine.”
He said the word, but his steps toward the bedroom were headen. Frustration roiled off him in waves, a storm cloud gathering around his shoulders.
The head of Torres Group was left in the cold because of his wife’s gaming addiction. If that got out, Colin would roast him for a year.
The living room returned to battle rhythm.
But reality was brutal. No matter how many more rounds they played, no matter how many different strategies Audrey tried, the result was always the same.
Every single time, Riley found a

easy? You think that’s what I’m crying about?” Audrey launched into it, talking fast like she was scared Riley ed Sebastian for so long. Everyone in Nexopolis knows threw away my dignity chasing him. I put in all that he liked. I learned his favorite games. And for what? After all those years, he wouldn’t even add me on
u know how long people have been laughing at me for that? All those socialite girls whisper behind my back that that I wouldn’t even be allowed to brush a hair on Sebastian’s head.”
can we maybe deal with your love life another day?” Riley glanced toward the bedroom and lowered her voice. “It’s morning.”
Audrey shouted, full of energy even as her logic started to crumble. “How can you have zero sympathy? You already got the You bagged Sebastian, the impossible one. You’re the winner here. So what if you have to listen to a loser complain for a few utes? Can’t you just think of it as charity work for the less fortunate?”

Honestly, it’s not like i absolutely had to have him,” Audrey muttered. “I just felt stupid. I mean, how did he end up with you? Okay, fine. You’re prettier than me, you’re way more put together, and your family situation is way messier, Fine, you’re actually pretty impressive. But what gives Colin the right to laugh at me too? That cockroach!”
Riley raised an eyebrow. “Colin?”
“Yes! Him!” Audrey sounded like she’d found a brand–new target to unload on, and her tone turned disgusted in a heartbeat “You saw him tonight at the vineyard, right? That purple car of his. His taste is so bad it fell straight into the gutter. He used to brag to Justin that he was the king of the Nexopolis racing scene, and then every single time he raced me he lost. And after he lost, he’d make excuses and say I had home–court advantage. That damn Colin. His mouth exists for exactly one reason, and that’s to piss people off. And today he actually called me a twelve–year–old.”
Riley leaned back into the couch and listened as Audrey seamlessly transitioned from pouring her heart out over Sebastian to absolutely shredding Colin. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
Sebastian was right. Audrey was no schemer. The first sign of real competition, and her “obsession” vanished into thin air
The night stretched on. Riley just sat there and listened quietly, tossing in the occasional response.
By the time Audrey’s endless stream of complaints finally dried up, the sky outside was already rinsing itself in dawn’s first gray light.
Riley hung up the phone. Her ears were still ringing. Her neck had gone completely stiff from staying in the same position for so long.
It was past three in the morning.
She rubbed her aching neck and eased the bedroom door open as quietly as she could.
She’d assumed Sebastian would be dead asleep by now. But the light was still on.
