From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 290

Eleanor knew Katie had already picked Jessie's side, so she didn’t bother trying to change her mind. She just gave a polite nod and walked away, calm and unbothered.

Katie felt a strange mix of emotions, especially after hearing what Eleanor had said earlier. She couldn’t explain it, but her impression of Eleanor had improved, even if it was just a little. The real problem, in her eyes, was Peter. He and Eleanor were divorced, and now he was married to Katie’s best friend, so why did he still feel the need to corner Eleanor with all that drama?

Jessie was waiting for her in Katie’s bedroom, the door firmly closed.

“Katie, I swear, I wanted to rip her face off. Did you see her strutting around like she owns the place? She’s so infuriating!” Jessie fumed.

Katie just listened quietly while Jessie ranted. “I don’t get what your uncle sees in her. She’s totally used goods. Who knows what tricks she pulled to hook him? And she doesn’t even care about her own daughter. That alone should tell you what kind of person she is!”

Jessie kept complaining for several minutes, barely stopping to breathe. Eventually, she realized Katie hadn’t said a word.

“Katie, why are you so quiet?”

Katie looked at her, her gaze steady. “Jessie, maybe my uncle has his reasons. And anyway, you’re on your second marriage, too. There’s nothing wrong with that, is there?”

Jessie’s jaw dropped as she stared at her friend in disbelief. “Wait, are you defending her now?”

Katie gave her a small smile. “I’m not taking sides. I’m just saying it like it is.”

For a moment, the air between them turned awkward.

Thankfully, the maid called them downstairs for dessert, giving them an excuse to escape the tension.

Peter and his family stayed a little longer before finally leaving. Max definitely wasn’t the type to see them off. Instead, he sat with Eleanor, holding her hand and absentmindedly playing with her fingers.

George watched the young couple, taking in their obvious closeness.

Eleanor tugged her hand away. “Cut it out.”

Juliana, still half-asleep, was totally thrown by her daughter’s outburst. “Jessie, what is going on?”

“What’s going on? Your darling daughter married Max just to spite me! If you really wanted me to have a good life, why didn’t you finish her off back then? This is all your fault!”

Max? Juliana’s mind raced. Wasn’t Max Eleanor’s boss?

“Eleanor married her boss?”

“Yeah, she did! Are you happy now? I hate you. You don’t deserve to be my mother!”

Juliana was left stunned. That last sentence hurt more than she expected. “Jessie, honey, how could I have known any of this would happen?”

Jessie’s eyes turned cold. “I’ll give you one chance to make up for it. If you don’t, don’t expect me to be there for you when you’re old. Think about it and let me know.”
