From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 291

Juliana couldn’t sit still. She kept glancing at her phone, itching to call Eleanor, but her so-called daughter had already blocked her ages ago. There was nothing she could do but wait, so she waited, and waited some more, until finally, her son came home for the weekend.

As soon as he walked in, she pulled him aside. “Jared, be honest with me. Did you know Eleanor is marrying her boss?”

Jared just stood there for a second, caught off guard. His brows drew together. “Mom, who told you that?”

He remembered the last time his mom almost found out, when she’d discovered the invitation Eleanor sent. He’d managed to hide the name before she could read it. So if it wasn’t him, how did she find out?

Juliana waved off his question. “Don’t worry about how I know. Just answer me. Is it true?”

Jared looked serious. “Mom, Max treats Eleanor really well. Whether it’s true or not, please don’t bother her anymore.”

He sounded tired. “I’m busy with school, and I can’t keep trying to fix things between you two. Eleanor is my sister, and that won’t change. Please, just leave her alone, okay?”

What worried Jared most was that if his mom kept meddling, he might not be able to help her anymore. Max wasn’t the kind of guy to be crossed. If his mom tried something, there’d definitely be consequences.

He’d said as much as he could. Beyond this, it was out of his hands.

Juliana fell silent, thinking it over. For a split second, she wished Mr. Clarkson had fallen for her Jessie instead. But the thought vanished almost as quickly as it came. She knew better than to mess with anyone now, especially not when Eleanor still had something on her.

She decided not to call Eleanor. Maybe time would make everything easier. From now on, all she wanted was for Jared to grow up safe and sound.

...

“Do you call your stepmom Mommie too?”

“What about your real mom, Olga?”

The questions came from everywhere, and Olga didn’t know what to say. For the first time, she felt lost. Why did everyone keep saying bad things about Mommie Jessie? Mommie Jessie was nothing like that.

One of the kids smirked. “Just wait, Olga. My mom says nine out of ten stepmoms are bad. You’ll regret it.”

That comment left a tiny seed of doubt in Olga’s heart.

By Friday, Olga got sick. She begged her dad to sleep next to her, and she kept sneaking looks at Mommie Jessie. She couldn’t help but notice, Jessie really did look a little upset.
