From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 302

She hauled all the bedding out from the top of the closet to air it, and even swapped out a bunch of old furniture for new pieces. She used to hold on to everything, never wanting to throw anything away, but now she was tossing out anything old, broken, or worn without a second thought.

Jared looked at her in confusion. “Mom, did you hit the jackpot or something?”

Juliana rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t talk nonsense. I just don’t want you to be lost if I’m not here someday.”

She pulled out a thick stack of bank books from under the bed. “Jared, these are all five-year savings accounts. The password is your birthday and then mine.”

“This card is my salary account. There’s a little left in this other one too. And under the bottom of my wardrobe, I’ve got a few hundred grams of gold stashed away. Got all that?”

Juliana went over everything in so much detail that Jared started to panic.

“Mom, what’s going on? You’re scaring me.”

She sounded just like someone getting their affairs in order.

Juliana smiled and shook her head. “Why would I scare you? I just haven’t been feeling well lately. I’m worried that if anything happened to me, you might end up with nothing to your name.”

“My money is your money. And if things ever get really bad, promise me you’ll go find Eleanor.”

Juliana figured that should cover it for now.

But her words left Jared so anxious that for the next three days, he called home right after school, terrified something might have happened. What he feared most was that terrifying man from their past coming back.

“Eleanor, be careful. Mom’s acting really weird, and I’m scared that man is back.”

Eleanor’s brows lifted a little. Was Jared talking about Patrick Lee?

“He’s not coming back,” Eleanor said softly, trying to comfort him. She knew Jared was too sharp to fool, so she decided to tell him the truth. “Patrick Lee is dead. He fell from a building. He owed a lot of money and people were after him.”

Hearing the calm in Eleanor’s voice, Jared finally relaxed.

They went to an upscale club, planning to leave by nine. Ever since the last incident, Max had arranged for a group of bodyguards to keep her safe.

The music was pounding, the lights flashing. Eleanor saw her phone light up with Jared’s name.

“Hey, Jared.”

“Eleanor, it’s Mom. Have you seen Jared? It’s Friday, and he took the day off to come home for your wedding, but it’s so late and he’s still not back. I called the school and they said he left at six!”

“Eleanor, do you think something happened to Jared?”

Eleanor shot to her feet and rushed outside.

Yolanda was left blinking in confusion. “Eleanor, what happened?”

Even in the club’s neon lights, Eleanor’s face was drained of color. “Jared’s missing!”
