Sydney never expected that Eleanor, the woman she’d hurt in the past, would show up at her shop with a new client.
“Sydney, my friend saw my wedding dress and absolutely loved it. Could you design one for her too?” Eleanor asked.
Sydney was busy thanking Eleanor and apologizing for before when Kristina walked in.
“Sydney, take your time,” Kristina said, waving her off.
She spotted Eleanor instantly. Last time, she’d only seen her in photos, but face-to-face was a whole different thing. Even at Jessie Goff’s wedding, she hadn’t been this close. Now that she was, she realized her grandma had actually downplayed it. Eleanor looked so much like her aunt. It was almost uncanny.
Sydney led Yolanda off to get her measurements, while Eleanor waited on the sofa. She could feel Kristina’s eyes on her.
Eleanor raised an eyebrow and gave a soft smile. “Hi. Is there something on my face?”
Kristina snapped out of it, realizing she’d been staring. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. You just… you really look like my aunt. I’m Kristina Davidson. My grandma met you once. You saved her life, actually. Do you remember?”
Eleanor nodded, understanding now. So this was Paola’s granddaughter. That made her Jessie Goff’s cousin.
Worried about coming off wrong, Kristina hurried to explain. “Don’t worry, I don’t like Jessie Goff either, even if she’s my cousin. We’re not close at all, so you don’t have to worry about any drama.”
She let out a nervous laugh. “Honestly, I always knew how fake Jessie was, even when we were kids. Too bad the grownups all loved her for it.”
Eleanor hadn’t expected Kristina to be so straightforward, and she smiled. “It’s fine, really. I won’t hold it against you.”
Jessie Goff was who she was. Eleanor had no intention of taking out her feelings about Jessie on anyone else.
Kristina seemed relieved. “I also want to apologize for what happened with Sydney before. She told me you were really nice, and now that I’ve met you, I can see she was right.”
Eleanor nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
A few minutes later, Yolanda and Sydney came back out.
Sydney looked at them with curiosity. “What are you two talking about? You both look so happy.”
Kristina gave her a playful wink. “Nothing. It’s a secret.”
The first round of designs would take a week. If there weren’t any big changes, the whole dress would be done in about a month. Business had been slow when Sydney first opened her shop, but now that word was getting around, she was getting busier and her wait times were longer.
A month was nothing for Yolanda. Her husband was still off somewhere on a business trip anyway.
As soon as Yolanda and Eleanor stepped out of the bridal shop, Jordan Gates walked in with his fiancée.
